“This toilet is my fountain.” Okay, now to explain the quote. I started regularly doing set painting a few years back, but really broke into it during Cinderella when I painted a fairly elaborate fountain for the show (nothing too crazy, but it looked nice). Since then, every show has had something noticeably impressive (The Secret Garden was basically the whole garden, Dorothy in Wonderland was an elaborate checkerboard courtyard, etc.) For 13, a lot of the painting was pretty easy, lockers and walls and basic shapes. The most elaborate piece was, weirdly enough, the toilet. So the running joke in my very tired mind was “this toilet is my Cinderella fountain.” To which the actors who were in Cinderella as well seemed to agree.
