He wasn’t sure if he should be surprised but, somehow, Natsu hadn’t expected so much of this trip to involve Kael sulking and skulking and generally being a bit of a killjoy. It wasn’t entirely Kael’s fault, he was simply no good with strangers and, unfortunately, being a Summoner involved a lot of encounters with new people. It didn’t seem to help matters that, when your entourage is one painfully quiet oddball Summoner and nobody else but your loudmouthed (adopted, mind you) Guardian brother, other Summoners seemed to look down your noses at you --- and that wasn’t even taking into account that, despite his talent in just every other area of being a Summoner, Kael wasn’t exactly any good with Aeons. They were something of a pathetic pair. He had a single Aeon to his name and he’d hated the process so much that he was being, in Natsu’s words, a cowardly little prick and dragging the rest of his Pilgrimage out as long as possible. He was getting tired of Kilika Village.
And it was while Natsu was mulling these thoughts over, kicking at the ocean from where he sat on a wooden walkway and wondering how cruel it would be to drag Kael off the island by his stupid ponytail, that he noticed a young woman. Being that Natsu was the type of person who was determined to help to the point of it being slightly painful, the fact she seemed lost (and perhaps a little distant) concerned him. Concerned him enough for him to decide it was any of his business. It doesn’t take long for him to bound over and clap her on the shoulder --- because, hey, what are boundaries, right?
