When reading Xiaoai's character spotlight, this extract might have brought up some questions:

“I should give you a proper name. How about Xiaoai? Little love. That’s the least I can express towards her now.”

What is this name meant to express? Why this one and not another name?

First of all, this line is from Jiamin/the rabbit spirit, right after she gave Xiaoai a human shape, thanks to her powers.

I'm not an expert in Mandarin (I only know a few words), but I know that "xiao" means "little" and "ai" means "love". Thus, if we were to translate this name word for word, it would mean "Little love".

In the context of The 100-year-old rabbit spirit, Jiamin cannot clearly express her feelings toward Ning Ke, since she must stay away from her. However, by asking Xiaoai to keep an eye on Ning Ke, she still shows her some affection.

What people know about her: a mere potted plant that Ning Ke keeps as a keepsake. More precisely, it’s a white hyacinth.

Who she actually is: a flower spirit. She keeps an eye on Ning Ke at Jiamin’s request. Thanks to her powers, Jiamin/the rabbit spirit turned this flower into a spirit with a permanent human shape.

Distinctive features: she is still bound to the flower pot and can’t get too far from it. She’s also invisible to human eyes. However, other spirits can see her.

Story excerpt:

It looks as if a ghost appeared in the room. Her body is translucent and foggy, surrounded by a bright halo.
