kinda sad for helio today
that jump to 12th made me hopeful, but that hope was just as quickly taken away :((
the indy 500 is beautiful for 1 driver and misery for the other 32, so it always has been and so it always shall be. or as apollonaire put it, life is slow and hope is brutal...
I am currently making Seb's first race-winner out of paper!
that's awesome, can't wait to see it!!! 💚
I keep telling people that jeddah is gonna be monza with monaco barriers and Turkey 2020 surface. Is that correct?
That’s kind of my thoughts of what it might be, it’s more corner heavy than Monza but yeah, high speed track with relatively close walls (i think it’s wider than Monaco) and a new track surface.
We don’t know what type of asphalt was used but it’s probably not going to be grippy.
Excited for race of the champions? I hope he beats séb this time!
Merry Christmas!
the thing that got me most excited is when seb was talking about how now he knows how to drive on ice properly…i’m sure the drivers from nordic counties will still be a challenge but he did some pretty special driving last time, we could be in for a treat!
plus, you know…

Wait why's pitlane better than back of the grid? Isn't pitlane start a lap down?
Hi!
So this isn’t the best map but it’s the only one that shows the Sochi pit lane
So the end of the pitlane joins the track just after turn 1, so if a driver was to take a pitlane start they would join the pack just after the cars pass the pit exit, so not a lap down and they would basically be in the same position as they would be if they started from the back.
The benefit of a pitlane start is first and foremost getting to change other things on the car in regards to set up, if you’ve already broken parc ferme once, you may as well perfect the car and have the best set up. The benefit I was mainly alluding to is the fact that a pit lane start often means that a driver is able to avoid some of the drama that happens at the start of a race and especially the drama from the midfield.
Essentially with a pit lane start the driver will wait at the pit exit for the rest of the pack to go through, the lights at the end of the pits will go green and then he will tag onto the back, he doesn’t need to wait for them to pass the pit entrance.
Look what I found! I found it in a racefans comment section. Though I don't understand much of this, do you? Basically CFD analyses of dirty air over the years.
This is so cool!
Thanks for sharing this, I’m so bad at determining which cars are which but I’m pretty sure 3rd most recent, are the cars that relied heavily on ground effect rather than added aero pieces and that is what F1 is making a bit of a return to, creating downforce through ground effect rather than front and rear wings.
You can see the added vortices from the cars that have excess aero parts and as such it should be that by going to a slightly more simplified model with a lower rear wing there should be significantly less dirty air

wait why didn't seb wanna go to q3?
Because he’s taking a new engine and starting from the back, if he had made Q3 he would be starting from the back on his Q2 tyres (which likely would be softs) which would put him at a huge disadvantage.
He just needed to be quicker than the other two taking engine penalties.
