What: Sophia comes to check in on Hunter and they have a heartfelt conversation about everything.
Hunter sighed and focused his eyes back on the classic American novel "An American Tragedy" - slightly ironic in his situation. It had been a quiet few days in the Clarington household since he had broken the news of the baby to his family. He had avoided his father's presence all week and had blocked out his mother's questions.but he knew all that would come to an end when he went to work for his father the next day. For now he was safe in his little cocoon of silence. The one person he wanted to talk to didn't want to talk to him and he felt at a lost. Like he had failed. Things were becoming almost too overwhelming for him regarding his family and this unplanned baby. The last few days had given him time to think and then think some more.
He was well deep into half the book when he heard a knock on the door and with a groan he acknowledged the person on the other side. "I'm not hungry, Bina." He repeated to the housekeeper for the umpteenth time. However when the door opened he was ready to snap at the loyal maid until he saw sight of who it was.
"It's me, peahead." Sophia Clarington smirked and entered the room, jumping onto his king sized bed and making herself comfortable. "Hi." She greeted quietly after a moment.
"Soph, not today." Hunter sighed trying to go back to the sentences on the page. Knowing his little sister she was ready to give him hell for something or the other. Probably for knocking up her best friend.
"I'm not here to start." Sophia said, raising her hands in surrender. "I'm just here to talk."
Hunter sighed and shut the novel, placing it on the night table next to his bed. "I don't want to talk.." He mumbled rubbing his temples in frustration. He didn't want to talk to her at least.
"Then just listen." Sophia shrugged and made no move to get up so Hunter gestured for her to continue. "I'm not going to ask you if you're okay or anything like that because I know you. I know the situation. We've been here with you before. I'm not going to lie; I was pretty pissed at both of you when you revealed you were the father of my best friend's baby. Pissed and disgusted that-just ew." Hunter laughed despite himself at this and turned his gaze towards his sister. "But when I saw you ready to stick up for her, I was glad that it was you and not some random she met at the club." His sister revealed to him.
"It was a mistake." Hunter told her quietly looking down at his hands.
"I know." Sophia smiled softly. "I was extremely excited at the thought of being an aunt to this child. Like a real aunt. Biological but this whole situation is so messed up." She pushed some hair out of her eyes and shook her head.
Hunter looked back up at her curious. "What are you saying?" He asked confused at what she was getting at. He had a feeling he knew but he didn't want to jump to conclusions. If it was what he thought it was then he and his sister's mindset were both on the same track.
"I think for the sake of you and Kitty and the family and Rosalie and the baby- just everyone involved that you two should look heavily into adoption." Sophia shook her head and sighed, "I think you two would be amazing parents but not right now- not with each other."
Hunter nodded in agreement but didn't say anything as he waited for her to continue. It was like she was taking the words out of his mouth. His little sister got on his nerves more than half the time but Hunter knew she had both his and Kitty's best interests in mind.
"Rosalie loves you just like mom and dad do but they just need their time." She added after a moment of silence.
Hunter was growing frustrated with that phrase and ran his hands through his hair to calm his anger down. "How much time? We only have another seven months!" He exclaimed, annoyed at this moment. Time seemed to be the only thing everyone asked for lately but they didn't have that much time. What was even time? It didn't erase his mistake. The past. The pregnancy. When they came back Kitty would still be pregnant and he'd still be the father.
"And they'll come around by then but you can't force it, Hunter!" Sophia matched his tone. "You can't shove something like a baby down someone's throat and expect them to accept it and move on because it doesn't work that way. It's a process. A pregnancy is a process and we will all grow with you if you just- just have patience."
"I just- I wish I could take it back. That night with her- Kitty." Hunter snickered sarcastically and shook his head. "I don't even remember any of it. God, does that make me a bad guy?" He looked towards his sister questioningly. Though he didn't feel for Kitty on any level other than the one he knew her at, he still felt like an asshole for what had transpired between them.
Sophia laughed and shook her head. "It makes you a horny twenty year old guy." Hunter's smirk mirrored hers. "But we'll get through this, okay? If you don't have anyone else you have me and we'll get through this together, I promise." Sophia grabbed his hand and squeezed tightly.
Hunter stared at his little sister. His mistakes hitting him like a ton of bricks. Whether he stuck by Katherine's side through this or not he would still be the douchebag who got her pregnant and didn't love her. She was the wrong girl and he was no Prince Charming but he had found his solace- his peace in his baby sister. Apart they were two very independent people but together they were a powerhouse and with Sophia, Hunter felt like he could get through anything. Even a situation like this.
"You're quiet wise for a stupid girl. Has anyone ever told you that?" Hunter smirked playfully.
Sophia shrugged and nodded. "So I've been told." She laughed as she wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug.
Hunter hugged her back for a few minutes, relaxing for the first time in days and let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you." He mumbled into her hair.
Sophia did nothing but nod and smile as she pulled away. Without words she cuddled into his side and laid her head on his shoulder. "I love you, brother bear." She told him quietly using her childhood nickname for him.
Hunter smiled and laid his head on top of hers. The confidence he had lost over the last few days suddenly making a reappearance. They'd get through this. He'd get through this. "I love you too, cub." He whispered back.
Who: Hunter Clarington, Rosalie Van Buren and the Clarington Fmily.
Where: The Clarington Household
When: Thursday, June 20, 2013 1:30 P.M.
What: Hunter comes clean about his night with Kitty and the pregnancy and is faced with some unhappy people.
We have to talk. Four words dreaded by those they were being said to but also by the person saying them. As Hunter sat with his family and girlfriend outside on the patio enjoying an amazing brunch on that beautiful summer day the words flew out of his mouth before he could stop them. Four pairs of eyes turned to his interested in what he had to say and the Princeton student cleared his throat and shifted in his seat uncomfortably before squeaking out a “maybe inside.”
Which was how Hunter Clarington found himself sitting across from the four people who meant the most to him in his seemingly huge living room that seemed to be caving in on him at that moment. “Okay well this isn’t easy to admit but it isn’t fair to any of you that I keep this a secret very much longer.” He started letting his green eyes trail across every face carefully.
He could sense that they believed the worst at that moment and he hoped they couldn't hear the rapid beating of his heart in his chest. He knew that no matter how he broke the news or what he said things would never be the same after this confession. Taking a deep breath he tried to remember the happiness, the laughter they had all shared just moments before his word vomit took over. His eyes fell to the silky understanding face of Rosalie. The love of his life and he knew he was about to lose everything. It was when she leaned over and laughed at something his father said that Hunter felt the pang of betrayal and blurted out those dreaded four words. It wasn't fair to her or his family that he continue to sneak behind their backs and lead a double life. It wasn't fair to Katherine either.
“So you all know Sophia’s best friend, Katherine Wilde. Well she’s pregnant and if Sophia hasn’t told you I’m telling you now. The thing is that after Sophia's birthday party a few months ago I came home drunk and she was awake. We made a mistake but it was a mistake that created a child and I feel that you all deserve to know the truth." Hunter took a deep breath before he was ready to go on but he was interrupted by his confused little sister.
"Hunter, what are you trying to say?" Sophia Clarington asked.
Hunter stared t her for a few moments before clearing his throat. "I-I'm the father of Katherine's baby." He said quietly looking down at his hands. He was met with silence. An not a comfortable one. Counting to ten Hunter looked up to see the shocked betrayed faces of his family but it was the tear that ran down Rosalie's face that broke his heart. "I'm sorry. It was a mistake. A stupid drunken mistake and if I could take it back I would." He quickly stood up, unable to keep still after his confession.
Hunter watched in confusion and desperation as Rosalie stood up to stand in front of him. Opening his mouth to plead with her, he was met with a sharp pain across the face. Bringing a hand up to the place she smacked him, Hunter looked at her shocked.
"I trusted you." Her voice shaky but he could tell she was trying to remind strong. "And you broke that. Don't you ever speak to me again." She pushed past him and began the short trek from the living room to the foyer.
Hunter turned around and tried to grab her arm but she was too quick for him. "Rosalie! Rosalie-please..." He shouted ready to follow her but his mothers voice stopped him.
"Hunter James Clarington..." Hunter turned on his heel and gulped down the fear he had of losing everything. "Sit down. NOW." Hunter did as his mother told him and sat quickly.
"She has to get rid of it." His father said breaking his silence and glaring at his son.
Hunter stared at him shocked and shook his head. "Dad, what? No! You know how I feel about abortion and I would ne-"
"How much does she want?" The elder Clarington asked before Hunter could finish his thoughts.
"Excuse me?! What makes you think she wants any money? Kitty isn't like that!" It was Sophia who yelled this causing Hunter to roll his eyes.
"It wouldn't be the first time this has happened to Hunter and maybe if he was a bit more responsible we wouldn't be having this conversation right now." Their father snapped. "Sit down, Sophia. You speak when spoken to but right now I'm dealing with your brother." Mr. Clarington turned towards his oldest child. "She is to get a blood test and once confirmed that it is your child she will receive weekly payments that will take care of her and that child which will also prevent her from taking legal action against you."
"What? Dad I-"
"Hunter, let him finish." His mother told him sternly throwing him a pointed look.
"We can't trust these girls as your ex-girlfriend proved to us once before. It's only fair we are provided with some proof before you go playing daddy to some child who isn't yours." Hunter glared at his parents but didn't say anything. "I can't tell you how disappointed we are in you. You're expected to take over the family business and if this gets out your whole future could be ruined but you don't think about that! I already told you the terms Hunter. I don't care whether you or Sophia tell her but none of my hard earned money will be invested into a child that may not even be yours. You already lost that beautiful girl, Rosalie over your idiotic mistakes. Don't lost your future. We're done here." Hunter opened his mouth to say something but was stopped by his father. "I said we're done here, Hunter."
Hunter glared at his parents for a few minutes before standing up. "I'm going to go look for Rosalie." He mumbled before storming out of the house. He couldn't believe his parents bringing up the past like that. He knew it wasn't going to be a pleasant confession but still. He didn't even care about his family at that moment. The only thing that mattered was finding Rosalie and winning her back. He knew he hurt her but she was the one person in his life who took the time to get to know him and he couldn't lose that.

What: Hunter searches for the one person in the crowd who just may not come.
This was it. High school was over. After four years of grueling inner battles and battles with others the time had come to make amends and say goodbye. They weren't children anymore but instead had transformed into adults over night. Almost like a metamorphosis. And as Hunter Clarington stood there watching as classmates hugged their proud parents or girls from Crawford County Day came by to say one last goodbye to those they had had their eyes on for the past four years he felt a sense of happiness wash over him. He strongly disliked most of these people but again he felt a certain protectiveness over them. Love, even. Whether he would ever admit it or not Hunter Clarington had found himself at Dalton and he had to thank the smiling faces around him for that.
After leaving Sebastian with his family, Hunter searched through the crowd for his own. He had seen the excited faces of his grandparents and mother but was disappointed to not make out the one person he wanted there more than anything in the world in the busting crowd. But maybe he hadn't been looking hard enough. He accepted the hug from a giggling sophomore who seemed to be in awe of the him and laughed with his friend Richard over something before he was met with a loud squeal. Before Hunter could process what was going on his mother enveloped him in a tight hug.
"I'm so proud of you!" Marla Clarington squealed as she hugged him tightly. Hunter smiled and wrapped his arms tightly around her. "I love you so much."
"Thank you, mom." He said quietly. His green eyes snapped up and smiled when he caught sight of his grandparents. "I love you too." He uttered as his smile widened.
"Okay, Time's up. Let me congratulate my amazing grandson." The elder Clarington laughed and pushed his mother away. Hunter laughed with him and hugged his grandfather tightly. He savored the few moments of being congratulated and praised before the inevitable came up.
Looking around Hunter searched for one face. "Is da-" Hunter stopped upon seeing the look of sadness cross his mothers face. "He's not here, is he?" He didn't need the answer because the sorry smile his mother threw him was enough of an answer.
"Hunter, I'm so sorry." Marla touched his arm. A sympathetic look upon her face.
"It's fine. He was busy." Hunter pushed back the tears that threatened to fall and forced a smile to hide how hurt he truly was. He knew the truth. His father wasn't busy but instead hated him still. But this was his day and like the day they won nationals he refused to let the his disappointment of his father take this victory away from him. "Anyways maybe I should-" And he stopped as he heard a deep voice that could belong to only one person from behind him.
"Hunter."
Slowly Hunter turned to come face to face with the one man who had shaped him into everything he was today. Uniform on Julian Davis Clarington never looked so confident to Hunter. And much like he had when he was a child Hunter felt the familiar awestruck feeling come over him. His father automatically being put on a pedestal no matter what he had done to him in his life because Hunter wanted to be him.
"Dad." Hunter stood straight and looked his father in the eyes.
"Congratulations, son." At those words Hunter had to stop himself from falling apart. It was then that Hunter broke inside. The feeling of love and admiration for the man who had helped in creating him taking over like a tsunami because as Hunter stood there, tall and proud his father reached around his neck and pulled off the one item that meant the world to him. "I'm proud of you." Were the words that went along with the dog tags being slid over his neck. Hunter reached a hand up to touch the metal tags in a state of shock and he stared at his father.
As Julian extended his hand, Hunter pulled him into a tight hug and let the tears fall from his shut emerald eyes. "I love you, dad." He whispered just as he felt the elder man wrap his arms around him.
"I love you too, Hunter James Clarington." And the world shifted at that moment. It all made sense. This was it. Today Hunter Clarington had achieved the one goal he had set out to accomplish his whole life. And everything was right in the world. This was it.
Am I a twelve year old middle schooler? To answer your question I do not have a "crush" on anyone at the moment. My focus lies solely on graduation in a few days.
