I'm happy with a ton of music released over this last year but it seems like Hundred Water's 'Communicating' gets my album of the year based on repeat visits, and listening to it now, I can see why. At about 00:42 in on 'Firelight' a shower of sound hits and if you're lucky enough to be wearing good headphones or surrounding yourself with good speakers, it'll keep you warm enough through to the second burst towards the end.

Hundred Waters - The Moon Rang Like a Bell @hundredwaters What a powerhouse of an album, VE friends and fans. This 2014 album was one that I didn’t come to fully appreciate until I was knee deep in 2015 during the dark, grey rainy season in Seattle. I’d seen them live at #SXSW before and I had a gazillion friends that love them, but I don’t think I was in the right mood for this album until a random, fateful day when I realized how incredible it was. It’s dark, it’s odd, it’s delicate but also forceful, and it’s truly unlike just about anything else you’ve listened to lately. They have a haunting quality because of the pianos, the expertly engineered vocals, and the overall attention to detail when this album was mixed and mastered. It sounds like one of those albums that can make you feel like you’re in the middle of a masterfully designed art installation while sitting on your couch at home. It’s deep, it’s heavy, and it’s not the feel good album of the summer...but it’s the complex beauty that will keep you attracted to this album over time.
