SAVE THE DATES! Thursday November 15 - 25, 2018 Seashell Aesthetics Exhbition . Sunday November 25, 2018 from 4pm - 8pm! Nature Camp Closing Celebration for Seashell Aesthetics. @shitshellysees and I will be both curating and performing in Nature Camp as part of @martabelw's Seashell Aesthestics at @humanresourcesla, an exhibition building upon a 2017 essay of the same name by Martabel Wasserman published in Yes Femmes. It explores catastrophes posed by carbon, plastic, oil and other byproducts of capitalism polluting the ocean. The shell becomes a way to think with a material that eventually decomposes into fossil fuel. It is both about materiality and possibilities for metaphor. The photographic work by Wasserman that frames the exhibition explores connections between the structural challenges we face (housing, scarce work opportunities, high cost of living) with those facing the shelled sea critters who share our coast. Seashell Aesthetics will feature work by @martabelw @softboycrush @contemporaryfart among others and will open on November 15th, where Sylvia Federici, author of Caliban and the Witch, will be doing a reading. More details on the schedule along with gallery hours will be posted soon. “Nature Camp” will feature sculptural installation and a night of performances on Sunday, November 25 in conversation with the idea of seashell aesthetics , curated by Michelle Antonisse & Edgar Fabián Frías.
