if you think of yourself as selfish for prioritizing your own needs, reframe the situation by objectively considering who then will prioritize your needs, if not yourself. perhaps the initial answer is your partner or your friends, but then shouldn’t they be prioritizing meeting their own needs and not yours? especially since you know yourself best. perhaps your answer is no one, which means if you’re not prioritizing yourself, your needs will go unmet, so that not meeting your own needs lends itself to a kind of tragic martyrdom, a silent (often resentful) self-sacrifice.
