(Bowling Green)—The Wood County Humane Society (WCHS) employs a Humane Agent to investigate reports of neglect, cruelty, and abuse from concerned citizens, social services, health departments, and other law enforcement agencies. The following cruelty report was submitted by Humane Agent D’Ann Gregory for April 2014.

  This past month, Gregory handled a total of 30 cases—24 of which she successfully resolved, 6 of which are still pending further investigation. Of the 24 closed cases, 3 were filed with “reason for concern,” 3 were determined “unfounded,” 1 was filed “unable to locate,” 10 resulted in the administering of additional education, 5 resulted in referrals to other agencies, 1 resulted in owner surrender of an animal, and 1 resulted in prosecution. Gregory also conducted 41 follow-ups to ongoing and/or closed cases during the month of April.

  During the same month, the WCHS took a total of 23 cats and 16 dogs into the shelter. WCHS Shelter Manager Erin McKibben reported the following information about intakes. Of the cats, 10 were strays, 7 were surrenders, 2 were abandonments, and 4 were returns. Of the dogs, 11 were surrenders, 2 resulted from cruelty cases, and 3 were transfers from other shelters. The WCHS also adopted out 23 cats and 11 dogs during the month of April.

  This past month, Gregory handled a total of 16 cases—12 of which she successfully resolved, 4 of which are still pending further investigation. Of the twelve closed cases, 5 were filed with “reason for concern,” 2 resulted in the administering of additional education, 4 resulted in referrals to other agencies, and 1 resulted in owner surrender of an animal. Gregory also conducted 23 follow-ups to ongoing and/or closed cases during the month of March.

  During the same month, the WCHS took a total of 25 cats and 16 dogs into the shelter. WCHS Shelter Manager Erin McKibben reported the following information about adoptions. Of the cats, 15 were strays, 2 were surrenders, 6 were transfers from other shelters, and 2 were returns. Of the dogs, 4 were surrenders, 2 resulted from cruelty cases, 12 were transfers from other shelters, and 1 was a return. The WCHS also adopted out 13 cats and 10 dogs during the month of March.
