Where Ember hailed from, precipitation didn’t come so naturally. Like most of the cliché climate California was known for, her home town was lucky to see rain five to ten days out of the entire year let alone the habitual downpour that seemed to surround the Pacific Northwest in an ever present and pervasive fog. She wondered now if even when it had rained, those few stormfronts that had moved in from the coastal waters for several days at a time causing meteorological anomalies had been her fault moreso than the will of Mother Nature. She was still struggling to understand her magical abilities, discovering how it manifested in so many different ways when it seemed to be everchanging. It was as if she tackled one obstacle and usually at the detriment of someone else’s safety that she was smacked in the face with a handful more. Trying to master siphoning seemed as bottomless as the heavy dark clouds overhead that had chased them into this little cabin in the first place with no warning beyond a flash of lightning and thunder rumbling not very far behind. Ember was drenched instantly, still also not having mastered her wardrobe for the change in scenery from outside sunny San Diego to Forks and water had collected in the bottoms of her sneakers, squelching with every step as they took refuge in the desolate makeshift shelter. She still wasn’t entirely sure if the storm itself was naturally occurring or if she’d somehow had something to do with it but she hoped Jacob wouldn’t piece together the probability. After all, he’d already seen her through some of the finer moments of accidental destruction and she wasn’t sure she needed to add to the walking disaster list just yet. She’d been hopeful as he scoured the landscape from the window, that the worst of the storm had passed but was disappointed as he turned to inform her it had yet to pass over them leaving them stranded in the cold and dark until it relented. Jake was quick to action, moving about the cabin to try to find something to start the fire and Ember eyed the hearth warily as the thought crossed her mind to try and light it herself. She was shivering to such a degree that her teeth were practically chattering and as she held up her hands, she couldn’t be sure her attempts at fire wouldn’t somehow invite the rains from outside to come in. Jacob had the right idea, trying to get the fire started the good old fashioned way but her faith was flailing as the wet and cold seeped through to her bones. “A-are you t-trying to get m-me undressed?!” She feigned indignation, teasing him and somehow still in her usual good humor despite the blueish color creeping into her lips. He was too attuned to her, recognizing how frozen she was from across the room as he extended an arm to beckon her forward. Ember needed no further invitation and she nearly shot forward, colliding against him and cradling in against his chest to soak up the impossible warmth always radiating from him. “Is now a bad t-time to mention, I n-never really did the whole s-scouts thing?” She glanced up, her expression sheepish with a growing grin as strands of wet hair clung to her cheeks. Glancing over her shoulder, Ember saw a plaid throw blanket draped over the back of the couch near the fireplace. “Not exactly c-clothes but it’ll do…” Â
