Naturally with all big decisions, there were monsters who didn’t agree with the decision that was made. Some wanted humans wiped out and so formed groups to continue to kill any humans they could get their hands on, while others sought to live peacefully with them still and so did their best to protect humans. Though that was after the war and it’s been so long that most of those sentiments have died out or have been moved into the background to a place where they aren’t easily seen as humans being around in the ways that they are is just the status quo. It’s like how we’re used to having automatic doors in some areas. Human are the only ones around that are doing work or existing as pets, but they’ve been that way for so long that it’s usually not thought about or questioned too much and it’s just become another fact of life. Of course there’s still monsters like Gerson who were alive during the war and remember a time before that, but they’ve learned to live with humans being the way they are currently and don’t really get bothered by it as much anymore. While killing humans has disappeared over the years, protecting humans trying to live like equals is still something that happens even if not publicly. Chern and Corduroy are a good example of this. Chern is a busy monster, but he’s still done his best to teach Corduroy to talk and lets her be herself. He treats her like an equal because he believes humans are equals and are fully sentient creatures capable of living alongside humans in that way.

Mount Ebott is something I want to go over in the story eventually, so I won’t say much about it here. I will say that it’s a sacred place for one of the religions in this world. As such it’s not only protected, but due to superstitions, many monsters will go no further than a designated area at the mountain’s base. There are also rumours that anyone, human or monster, who goes past that does not return. Many brush it off as ghost stories meant to keep those away from the mountain as to not mess with it due to it’s status, but there are plenty of reports of those who’ve gone missing who have been suspected of going to the mountain. It’s bad enough that rescue crews and the guard aren’t allowed to go onto the mountain either no matter the emergency that might be present there.
