WALLY THE WALRUS. It is so nice that they have built a special pontoon for Wally the Walrus in the port of hughtown St. Mary's, Isles of Scilly. He is a young male on a bit of a 'walkabout' and is probably missing company as a gregarious animal. This may be one of the reasons he has decided to hang around Hughtown and, before making his 'throne', he would rest on he rear decks of boats in the middle of the busiest part of the port and nuzzle inflatables. Some believe he might be from Svalbard and this could well be the case. Walrus around Svalbard have been protected since 1950 and they are less wary and curious (especially young males), even coming up to Zodiacs (even nuzzled my Zodiac on a couple of times!) and comes close to shore when people are on the beach. Perhaps Wally remembers such encounters from when he was with Mum (usually at least 3.5 years) and he likes the boats and activity. He has been happy amongst all the boats in the busy harbour, often resting on decks of boats and, being curious, deflating inflatables. Has been an issue with him resting on the marine deck of the ambulance boat, So he has been given his own floating pontoon.
