It was strange to the huntsman for his blood to run cold, nor was he used to the cold hard fear that bloomed through his chest as he heard a scream echo through out the forest. The huntsman was known to be strong, fearless, but as he began to pound his feet against the cold dirt, he dropped everything he was holding in an attempt to become lighter. That was his sister’s scream, that was the scream that had echoed through out the forest, sent the birds flying, and turned his blood cold.

His vision began to double, his lungs screaming for air as he screamed out his sister’s name. She was all he had left, she was all the family he ever seemed to know, and yet here he was, the huntsman that knew no fear, stumbling and tripping over the forest floor as fear wanted to paralyse him, but he kept going, the sound of his rushing blood echoing through his ears. Grunting as he tripped over a root, he didn’t care about the blood that he could smell, he didn’t care about the fact he knew he was bleeding in a forest where a demon, vampire, or any monstrosity could smell. He had to find his sister, he had to find her.

The trial seemed to go on forever, but as he rushed towards the place he called home, the smell of metal hit his nose like a rushing river, tears picking at his eyes as he ignored the damage to the walls, he needed to find his sister.

“(y/n)!” The huntsman called out, his voice strained as he kept back tears, though as the sunset behind him illuminated the building, he almost lost his footing. That was blood. That was the blood he had grown used to seeing, that he had stomached ever since he had make the contract with that stupid owl, but this time it made him want to vomit. His stomach twisted and turned as his hands shook, even gripping against the door frame. The anger, the fear, the grief all overwhelmed him, he wasn’t too sure how to react, but he had to find his sister.

Following the blood, his feet being dyed red from the colour, his nose didn’t betray him, especially as he threw open the door that was next to his own bedroom. The sight was overwhelming. There was so much, so much blood, so much fear that coated the walls and his throat, his knees giving out from under him as he fell to the ground. “No. No, no, no!” Crawling through the blood, his breathing could barely give him oxygen, his hands shaking as he tried to shove blood back into the body that laid cold, barely clinging onto warmth, and still in the middle of the floor.

There, laying in all that blood, was the sister of the Huntsman, the dear doe of the village.

He thought that he had kept the house hidden, he had done every cloaking technique he could think of, he had made sure to hide the home in the best spot he could find. But it seemed that no matter what he could do, nothing seemed to be enough.

No. Maybe there was still time? Eli had to hold onto hope. There was too much blood on the sheets of his sister’s bed to keep her warm. She’d lose too much heat from being in something that was wet, so pulling the cloak off from his back, he laid it on the ground, his back turned to the body, not even noticing the subtle shifts, however, he could feel a familiar presence.

He could feel that blood instinct.

He could feel that intent of carnage.

And all he could do was dodge. Rolling to the right, ignoring the pain that his right side cried out in as he forced himself to his feet, he kept his eyes on the being that stood in the place he once knelt in, the creature’s hands grasping onto the cloak that he called his own. It was his sister’s body, but as his eyes met her’s, the glow caused his throat to tighten, constrict.

That was his sister no more. No matter how much he cried, or screamed, or begged whatever god existed up in the heavens for redemption for whatever sin he had committed, he knew he would receive no reply. His heart pounding, no doubt tempting to the corpse in front of him as he felt like she was seeing through his skin, he once more dodged, running against the wall as he watched the creature almost scale it like a spider after lunging at the spot.

A demon, this creature was a demon. Something that he had sworn to his sister that he would protect her from, and yet here she was, one of the things that had made her cry at things that go bump in the night, made her cuddle into his side as he kept an eye out, always prepared to protect the one he loved. Those memories were no doubt already gone from the demon’s mind, no doubt that any trace of humanity was already gone.
