Ryan and Calvin are dating.

It’s been a week since they upgraded their relationship from bromance to romance and nothing has really changed except now they kiss and hold hands. Though, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that their relationship wouldn’t consist of many changes. They were always close. If Ryan was pulled aside at an art exhibit to hear that one of his sculptures had been bought, Calvin was there to hug and celebrate with him. And when Calvin had a solo during a field show competition, Ryan would be there to cheer the loudest. They had always meant something to one another, they just hadn’t realized that it was something beyond friendship until recently.

“Shouldn’t we wait to tell them?” Calvin crisscrossed in front of Ryan. They were walking towards the lunch area after fourth period and Calvin kept weaving in front of Ryan because he thought it was hilarious how the redhead had to stop in his tracks to not bump into him. “I mean, we’ve only been dating a week.”

“Are you insinuating you don’t think we’ll last?” Ryan pressed. He knew Calvin hadn’t ever shied away from showing his love for him but since they’d started dating he’d kept a reasonable distance. He didn’t kiss Ryan in public and didn’t hold his hand.

“No!” Calvin jumped, “I mean, no I think we’ll last! I, I really like you. I told you. I just mean, you know, I don’t want to jinx our relationship by telling people too soon and-”

Ryan leant against the twin doors that lead towards the cafeteria. The rumble of student life greeted them. “I was just teasing,” he said as they walked towards the end of the lunch line.

After the boys had chosen their lunches (Ryan the Mac N Cheese, Calvin the the Teriyaki chicken and rice), they walked in happy silence until Ryan caught sight of their friends sitting around a table. He squeezed his tray and looked over at his boyfriend. “Do you want to tell them or?”

“Tell us what?” Payton looked up from her phone. She’d been mid text but she always had an ear for gossip.

“Hi to you too, Payton.” Ryan chirped, for which he received an “Oh hush!” and hand lightly smacking his shoulder.

Payton scooted closer to Julian so there’d be more room for the boys to sit.Calvin got comfortable between Ryan and Ezra. He did a quick scan over the table and counted the faces. There was Ezra and Wes, Payton, Julian, Ace and Beckett. “Where’s everyone else?” he asked.

“Mia’s at cheer practice, Nishan and Sakura had their video game thing, Koh went for hot wings when she saw what they were serving, and you’re not getting out of this one,” Payton quirked, “What are you keeping from us?”

Calvin felt the space around him tighten as his friends leaned forward to hear him better. “Uhm, well you see,” he fumbled, “Uh, R-Ryan?”

Ryan replied by stabbing a fork into his mac and cheese and taking a mouthful. He slowly chewed his lunch, swallowed and said, “We’re dating,” once he could.

“Okay, and?” Ezra waited for more.

“And?”“Yeah,” Julian slowly nodded, “You’re dating and what?”

“Oh! Is it your anniversary?” Payton wiggled in her seat. Julian had to place a hand on her shoulder to calm her down. “I love anniversaries.”

“No, we just started dating a week ago!” Calvin laughed.

“Wait,” Wes piped in. He had his brows scrunched and looked between the couple in confusion. “A week ago? What the fuck! Do you mean you weren’t before?”

“No?”

“But you made us throw a birthday party for Ryan!” He looked at Calvin accusingly.

Ezra nodded. “And didn’t you ask Calvin to homecoming? I strictly remember you decorated his second period class winter wonderland themed.”

“Yeah! There was even a heart shaped balloon that said I Love You attached to a polar bear holding a scroll,” Beckett reminded the gang.

“I remember that!” Julian laughed, “Wasn’t the scroll like a poem that ended with Ryan asking him to be his Ice Prince?”

“Yeah! And there were chocolate kisses that spelled out VICE on his desk and tiny cut out hearts that said ‘Yes?’ all around.”

The group continued to exchange stories and Ryan’s felt his blush consume his neck and cheeks. He was the creative type and whenever he did something he went all out. For homecoming Calvin had said he wasn’t going because he didn’t have anyone to take and Ryan had jokingly offered his hand. Only to have Calvin reply with “No” and “I want a proper proposal.”

“Okay okay,” Calvin buried his face in his hands, “We get it, but we were just friends. Swear, we only became official last week.”
