Has it really been so long? Homestuck, me and this webcomic we've got history. It was because of this webcomic that I'd made this account. It was this comic that introduced me to so many creators and fandom culture as a whole. Homestuck for 11/12 year old me was life changing in a way. I grew up with those kids, watched John, Rose, Dave and Jade grow up. I watched the trolls grow into their own. I got to be apart of the phenomenon of Tumblr's once active tag Update.
I was there for it's end too. Was there to say goodbye to those same kids and trolls. To say goodbye to a childhood full of sick beats, best friends, eldritch horrors and harlequins. I'm not as active as I was back in those days. I continued to grow and change and yet every single year without fail.
I come back to Homestuck.
Because no matter how long it's been, no matter how old I've become, I still think about those kids and trolls. I think about them and how they'd influenced so much of my life and how they inevitably paved the way to me getting onto this hellsite. It was because of them I ended up meeting so many amazing people and mutuals. Because of them that I'd seen the fandoms and their creativity here on Tumblr. Which would in turn get me into writing my reader inserts and other fics and help me discover my love for writing.
Me and Homestuck have history. Over a decade of it, and today on 413, me as well as so many others were introduced to a boy named John who gained his name on his birthday. And marked the beginning of an adventure that was wild from beginning to end.
So thank you Homestuck. Thank you Andrew Hussie, Toby Fox and all the other amazing creators who gave me and so many others our childhoods and starts to the world of art and community.
Happy 413 everyone and happy birthday John.
