in all seriousness i know some people will disagree (and they have) but i think the current storyline is incredibly compelling for dirk and while i feel that his arc that had been 'you can be better than you were and better than you are' was kinda wiped off I think that Ultimate Dirk is one of the more sympathetic villians in Homestuck, but that's not saying much because all of the villians in homestuck were very much painted in shades of grey. there's no such thing really as 'evil' within the homestuck universe where people are awful without what they believe are justified reasons

the exceptions being doc scratch and probably others but he's the first that comes to mind, you could even argue caliborn is a little sympathetic because im not sure if he really was ever capable of 'growing up' but that's neither here nor there

a lot of homestuck antagonists aren't really even evil so much as incredibly driven people, who feel that the ends justify the means, and i think that aranea and dirk very much kinda show this blatantly

i think that it's interesting to see how very much desperate dirk is to achieve his goals, as varied as they might be. i also think that dirk is intentionally trying to paint himself as a villian, and i enjoy the comparison to calliope actually in one of the recent updates about how in the end, they aren't so sure that if they were killed if their death wouldn't be considered just, especially regarding their own approach to an ends justify the means, and how that comes from a different place of desperation
