that many of you may not have been alive when Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone was released. 

You have lived with Harry all your lives. And so, in a way, have I. Even if I was “late” to the game when I was 12. Even if I didn’t read the books right away. Even if this date, realistically, meant nothing to me when it was happening. What I would have remembered was that it was summer vacation,  and I was a kid, and I was happy. 

So I just want to tell you that it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter when you read Harry. It doesn’t matter if it was the day it came out; or in the days leading up to Deathly Hallows, or after the movies came out, or even last week.

Lots of things happen all the time. I didn’t watch Buffy growing up. I didn’t watch it until college, even though it was the quintessential 90s television show that changed the world. But I still love it. And I’m still committed. Without people coming “late” to fandoms, the fandom would die. For Merlin’s sake, no one thinks if you didn’t read “The Hobbit” when it came out in 1937 you’re a FAKE FAN. Just be grateful you get to be part of this generation at all. That there are blogs and edits and fics and drabbles and other people who literally mark their bodies and decorate their rooms with love for Harry Potter. One day, there will be kids who would kill to trade places with you for these reasons. 

I guess what I’m trying to say is that it doesn’t matter when you got here. It only matters that you’re still here. Because - to use a more appropriate phrase - it’s until the very end.
