Part 2 of the How we are comic!

Whilst walking around I walked past the OXO Gallery which was holding the ‘Jamaica Hidden Histories’ exhibition, I thought it would be interesting to visit and see the work that they have and how it was displayed. I took a video of the video that was playing in the back of the room. The red chairs were left out for people to sit on and be able to pay attention to what is being played on the tv. I thought this was interesting and give it a casual feeling but I thought it would be a bad idea because of people walking around discussing different art work

To get some ideas of how I am going to resent my work in a physical space. I went to visit 3 different galleries. 

The first one was one I have visited many times because I knew they would have videos and installations similar to that and as I am using sound in my work I wanted to get an idea of how to present it. In the Tate they have a lot of video instillations and my favourite one is ‘Tiny Deaths’ by Bill Viola 

Whilst I was in there I tried to get a video of the piece but didn’t managed to get the audio and not any footage. 

“ Tiny Deaths was made in 1993. Barely visible figures are perceived in the darkened space until crescendos of light and sound bring moments of drama. The three projections envelop the viewer in the intense experience of the appearance and sudden disappearance of these presences. ‘The struggle we are witnessing today is not between conflicting moral beliefs’, Viola observed in 1992. ‘It is between our inner and our outer lives, and our bodies are the area where this belief is being played out.’ His works of the 1990s consistently show the body as the site for physical transformations – often through immersion in light or water – that embody these profound concerns with transformation and mortality.” (TAKEN FROM  http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/display/bill-viola)

I noticed from research how both artist I looked at used black and white photographs so I decided to edit my photographs in black and white to see what they look like.

First thing I did was open the image I am going to be working on 

I then added an effect layer so I wasn’t editing the image directly. 

I then spend some time changing up the colours on the side to get the best effect. 

Once I was happy with the results I had, I then went and changed the exposure a little to give it a high contrast look

I was really happy with this outcome and realised black and white looks better as it gives the images that dark tone to go with the subject that the photographs have. I was happy with the crop of this image but I wanted to try some different things so I played around with the crop tool. I then got this and was really happy with the outcome. 

I thought the image was good with having full sink and part of wall in it but after cropping it I realised this is better as it makes the image a lot simple and doesn't have as many things you can focus on.
