And yet the fandom latched onto Bruno and even worse, Camilo who had like two lines, like their lives depended on it. And on top of that they wanted to badly to make Bruno's arc like a coding for closeted gayness and ignoring the actual complexity of toxic familiar dynamics rooted deeply in latinoamerican families. I don't have a problem with queerness readings at all (bc i do those all the time too), is just that some ppl really just refused to see what the movie was about and its context.

The movie spoke deeply, deeply to most latinoamericans and then some ppl took that and ran with it like it was your average accepting your gay son conflict like it was Shark Tale.

As he understands it, Anakin just decided to betray them all and join the chancellor because the chacnellor was his friend and he wanted power, that's all Obi-Wan understands of Anakin's fall, that and Anakin nonsensically screaming the jedi are evil. I want to eat dry paint from the wall.

I'm not saying Anakin was justified for turning to the dark side and murdering everyone, what I'm saying is that it seems like it came out of nowhere and for no reason, like I'm sure Obi-Wan wonders if Anakin had been lying to them all this time, probably spent the rest of his life wondering if Anakin had secretly been Sidious' apprentice for longer that he imagined.

Because Luke's arc is linked to his father in a caring, driven by love way, he's now eternally subjugated to being just a babyboy. He's silly, childish, naive, and even when he's sexualized, is under very specific stereotypes (If you know you know).

And I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, rather just an observation on general fandom view of him. Because don't get me wrong, he is and will always be a dad's boy, Anakin will always see him as his babyboy son, but Luke is much more than a baby in need of protection.

Is intriguing to me because, fandom as predicable as it is, in other fandoms people would give all their money for their personal blorbos to have half of the character richness and potencial Luke has. Or at least, all of that minus the whole deal with his father.

And not even in a fun "this is an abuse cycle" way!

I do think is funny tho, these books are used to excuse everything about Obi-Wan's behavior, but Anakin is demonized and people jump onto you if you imply his issues are rooted on trauma.

Of course Anakin's crimes aren't justified, and of course Obi-Wan never did anything as abhorrent as Anakin's crimes. But if you dare to imply Obi-Wan was less than stellar, or god forbid, emotionally abusive, people will come to you in drones citing these damg books like they're an excuse lol

Coughing baby vs Hydrogen bomb type of argument. But I'm not here to say Anakin is the lesser of evils, I'm not here to say Vader didn't do anything wrong, but see that's the issue, because once you point the systemic failures that led to Vader existing, people will cry and howl that you're defending fascism or some bullshit.

But Obi-Wan didn't do wrong, never. Obi-Wan exists separated from this evil system. Obi-Wan is a bubble of goodness unaffected by the corrupting powers of evils, despite suffering almost as much as Anakin. Obi-Wan's little flaws are actually because he suffered just so much.

Having bad parents, having abusive or neglectful parents isn't a excuse for evil. But that doesn't mean they're free of all or any blame in how they shaped a person.

Is not Obi-Wan's fault Anakin was groomed, not directly, sure. Sure. But he sucked ass as a "parent", and as a brother too. He didn't want that kid, he's like the older brother being forced to take care of his half brother because their dad kicked the bucket. And now he resents the kid because he's saddled with a giant responsibility, except he's the one who actively made that choice.

It's fundamentally toxic, the fundation was doomed at the start. And there's always room for improvement, heck, their relationship seemed to start to improve a bit by ROTS, when Anakin was an adult and ironically drifting away from needing Obi-Wan emotionally. And at that moment it was too late and it all went down in flames.
