Thinking about how Alicent basically grew up together with Aegon, as it tragically happens to all women married off at a young age. The fact that unlike with Helaena and Aemond, she was never able to establish herself mentally as Aegon's mother, and so she was never able to form a mother-son bond with him. Even though Aegon was the child who loved her the most and needed her affection the most, the bond between them has been damaged and frayed since Alicent had first become pregnant, and it could never hold them together. Thinking about the bond between Alicent and Aegon like the umbilical cord of a stillborn baby, dysfunctional long before Aegon was ever born.

because the thing is that every SINGLE man alicent has a relationship with of any kind. EVERY SINGLE ONE. the relationship becomes sexually transactional and coercive. it is INESCAPABLE. like no wonder she is like that!!! Literally NO WONDER she is like that!!!

Something to think about: I was wondering why there was never any parental incest in Targaryen history (except for Aegon the Worthless taking a mistress who could be his daughter but he is accepted to be a horrible deviant by everyone anyway) and I concluded that it was taboo even for the Targaryens. So Aemond's feelings for Alicent aren't something that can be explained by simply saying "that's just how Targaryens are", it is rooted in Aemond's own crooked understanding of love: I don't think that he has ever learned to distinguish different kinds of love and display accurate type of affection.
