Hook Jaw was one of the lead strips in the comic Action in 1976. Created by Pat Mills and Ramon Sola, it was a story of a shark that ate its way through the human race, starting with the crew of an oil rig.

Jaws had just come out and whatever the movies did, Action could do better! Unfortunately, in 1976, that was a bad idea and 6 months later the comic was banned from the newsagents! Covering the centre pages allowed Hook Jaw to have a two colour page spread. A series was remade by Titan in 2016-17.

The issue included a 4 page Spinball booklet including this handy feature on the main characters. This strip really did have some memorable character names. At this point the team were known as Kneagle's Eagles although I remember them better in their Battle Action incarnation as the Black Gladiators.

I think there is more than a hint of Roger Moore in the drawing of Breed on this cover.
