              The NIGHTMARES wouldn’t stop. They wouldn’t leave him alone, no matter how much he WISHED they did. The memories would still follow him, even in his sleep. All the people he’d seen die all over the years, most of those were his FRIENDS, innocent men with families, and he wasn’t able to SAVE them. All those people———— Peggy, and Bucky. At least Peggy got to live her LIFE, she got married and had a family… but Bucky didn’t have the chance for any of that. And it was because of him, because he wasn’t able to SAVE him from that fall… from HYDRA. Sitting in the edge of the bed, the Captain has nothing left but stare at the window in the middle of the NIGHT, since sleeping is apparently not an OPTION for him. Bucky’s voice behind him, though, reminds him he’s not ALONE with his thoughts in there.

                                 “————thanks.”

He’s still not used to see him having nightmares;; he knows it is stupid, it’s not as though he would have the only right to be haunted by them and yet he wonders. What is it that steals Steve Rogers’ peaceful slumber and leaves him shaking? What is he having nightmares about? The fight on the helicarrier? The war? Some other horrible event he never told the Soldier of? He wants to ask. He wants to know every cruel little detail and compare it with his own nightmares and then---- he doesn’t know what could happen next. Worrying at his lower lip, he steps closer. It has only seemed natural to tell Rogers what he’s telling the Soldier every time he awakes with a start;; but beyond that it’s difficult for the Soldier to offer comfort. Rogers manages to do so naturally but then he is human. The Soldier is only a weapon.
