Tomorrow, I will be speaking at A Walk To Remember Our #MMIW. The violence that we experience, that threats our continued existence weighs heavily on me. The loss, pain, anger and grief is with me every single day, but so is the beauty of our resiliency, strength, grace and love. As Indigenous women, we often carry the weight of the world on our shoulders because our power is rooted in the lifeforce of this universe and it has always been our duty to foster, nurture, heal and protect life. I share this quote often because it explains why we bear the brunt of genocidal policies and violence. "A nation is not conquered until the hearts of its women are on the ground. Then it is done, no matter how brave its warriors or strong it's weapons." As much as the history books and society wish that our Indigenous Nations were conquered, defeated and annihilated, WE ARE STILL HERE. We are still here, we are still fighting and we are Thriving. So no matter how great the sorrow, as Indigenous people we will continue to rise because our women continue to foster, nurture, heal and protect the lives of our people. #indigenouswomenrise #rise #indigenousresistence #nomorestolensisters #notonemore #honoroursisters
