Emmett Till, 14, was murdered by two white men based on the false testimony of a white woman while visiting relatives in Mississippi in 1955.  The men were acquitted by an all-white jury the next month, and admitted to killing him the following year.

Breonna Taylor was murdered on March 13, 2020 in her own home by plainclothes police officers without body cameras, who forcibly entered, without knocking or announcing themselves as the police. She and her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, had been sleeping and believed that criminals had broken into their home and that they were in “significant, imminent danger”. Out of self defense, Walker injured one officer in the leg with his gun, but it is unclear who shot first. The police “proceeded to spray gunfire into the residence with a total disregard for the value of human life” and Breonna was killed.

Regis Korchinski-Paquet was a 29 year old black woman living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She died after falling 24 stories from a High Park highrise while police were present. She was active in her church, a talented gymnast, and proud of her Ukrainian and Nova Scotian roots. She had mental illnesses and epilepsy. Her family called the police as they wanted her to be taken to Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. The police say she committed suicide. Her family disagrees. Their lawyer calls her death suspicious. There is an internal investigation ongoing by the SIU. We want answers. We want justice.
