Heeeey it's a silly timelapse of my "Too Hot, Too Cool" piece posted earlier this year!

I like to take progress shots while I'm working on a piece - partly to share with my friends, and partly so I can look at them on a different screen (my phone); IME, this helps me to see errors/issues I want to fix.

I've never made a timelapse before and now I know that screenshots aren't the best way to do it, but after some realigning, this turned out alright!

This year, I've started coding/drafting the user interface and general layout for the HON3YPOT Visual Novel and... having a great time?! 🌝 This shit brings me an unreasonable amount of joy, and I'm regularly getting so into the flow that I even forget about the snacks I've brought to my desk 🤓

All the graphics are (obviously) still drafts/placeholders, but everything is ✨working✨ and soon I'll have enough of the setup done that I can actually start putting the game together - the story, the art, the mechanics. I'm looking forward to working on character sprites, and to challenging myself with backgrounds (though I may do the challenge first, so I can reward myself with character art...).

The thing about being a con artist with multiple identities is that no one really knows your "true" self. You might not even know(,) yourself. Or maybe it's just that you've started to forget. Keeping track of your relationships has become a nightmare, and it takes all your mental resources just to be the right person at the right time. Sure, some personas feel more natural than others - maybe they even feel comfortable - but does that make them real? Gideon Glacier sure doesn't sound like the name of a real person.

Ko-fi's June theme was "true self", and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to talk about a character aspect that might not show up much in the HON3YPOT game: player character Gideon Glacier is actually a fake identity! Gene-altering cyberware allows this character to change his skin colour at will - including fake tattoos, scars and other details. In a world where normal skin colours include blue, red, green and anything in between or beyond, this ability helps him to disappear or even to pass as someone else.

Speaking of colours: had I meant to colour these? Heck yes! But time makes fools of us all, am I right? Still, it was great to practise some different angles and expressions!
