HARDWARE - My desktop PC that's hardwired into the mesh. + It's my daily driver and I'm not using it as part of my homelab. - 10" 9U network rack with a 12 port patch panel. - Netgear GS308 - NAS running TrueNAS + Manual desktop and photo backups + 1TB mirrored pool for manual desktop and photo backups + 2TB mirrored pool for media storage (Movies/TV/Music) - Raspberry Pi 5 8GB - Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W - Dell Optiplex 3070 Micro + i5 processor and 8GB of RAM and a single 500GB SSD - HP ProDesk + i3 processor and 8GB of RAM and a single 256GB SSD

I watched this video and I got inspired. Fuck apple and google and microsoft — this is right up my alley. I recently had a pretty severe mental breakdown, took half a week off work, and received one of the worst haircuts of my entire life to date, so I am in the perfect headspace to embark on this quest for existential affirmation. Time to pull out my external hard drive collection and get to work.
One thing about me is I have MONUMENTAL hubris regarding anything DIY. Up to this point it has been mainly confined to small house repairs and experimental home cooking but why not expand into fucking around with IT? There’s no time like the present (especially this present). No, my disastrous 2-week doorknob replacement quest will not discourage me. My bathroom now has a doorknob and it even functions. I triumphed. How hard could this be? Worst case scenario i mess up one of my backup drives and I start again. LET’S GO.
