They wanted to make sure there were enough amps coming into the home to support an EV setup. And when EV vehicles become driverless, the housing landscape could potentially change immensely combined with a larger work force working from home. Many stations have made the costly decision to install EV charging units, which can cost $100k a pop. It’s a hard cost to justify, given that EVs currently make up <1% of cars on the road. But the industry is experiencing a rapid rise: 4 in 10 consumers say they’d consider buying an EV for their next car, and stand-alone EV stations are popping up all over the country to serve them.
