It just feels instead like it’s like “hey here’s 2 people, maybe they can be together because they’re the right combination of genders we’ve decided we’re gonna run with for this” the same way that’s done so often for m+f elsewhere. Instead of being like “look at these two complicated, complete, layered individuals, here’s how they complement each other nicely, here’s why A really likes and cares about B and B really likes and cares about A, here’s why they make sense, here’s why no one else makes sense in their stead...” I feel like it was like, “We’ve decided we want to write a gay ice skating story. We’ll based Victor on this RL guy so we can steal aspects of him when needed. Now we need some random male love interest for him so let’s just throw some shit together and call him Yuri.” So it’s like trying to make Victor be the MC without him being the MC, and honestly based on ep 10 I think I would have preferred Victor being the MC all along.

Ultimately the main impression I’ve ever gotten from Victor or Yuri for why they may like the other is “hey cool bro I like ur skating” but that’s a super weird reason?? They could easily like everyone else’s skating too. In fact they think about how great other people are all the time. Also, even though they’re skaters, that isn’t the entirety of their personality or who they are as human beings. So yeah Yuri skates like he’s making the music dance with him or whatever it was Victor said, but so what? That makes sense for initial attraction or intrigue but what is the reason for anything beyond that? What’s special about Yuri that the others don’t represent, what is unique to him that really pulls to Victor and makes him love him? And yeah Yuri thought Victor’s a great skater etc but Victor isn’t even a skater now, he’s just a coach at the moment. I feel like there’s a little more effort put into why Yuri is into Victor but even then it doesn’t feel like something that would be lasting, it feels like something where Yuri’s just like “oh ok so now this guy I looked up to is here, cool bro I’ll run with it” in all of the way he acts but then in the way he thinks he’s super like “Victor SAVE MEEEEEEEEE T_____T” as if he couldn’t live without him but he lived his whole life without Victor before and was perfectly fine so where did all that independence and confidence go I don’t understand itttttt D:

Maybe a victuri shipper can explain to me what makes each of them special to the other beyond the fact they’re cool bros at skating. Because there are lots of other cool bros at skating too. So what makes them unique beyond the fact that the writers decided this would be the main couple so that’s what they’re going to be? I’m so confused I feel like I’m missing half of the point of the story and it’s starting to bug me.

Yurio is adorbs. I liked that scene with him making the friend too! Although speaking of Yurio, I swear it feels like no one acts or looks their age in this series lol Yurio sometimes acts more mature than the people who are like 10 years older than him and meanwhile some of the oldest characters are the fucking weirdest I’M LOOKING AT YOU CHRISTOPHE lol
