Twenty Questions for Fanfic Writers
thank you so much for the tag @shimmeringlesbian !! I would like to add, they also tagged my main account @thatgirlintheleatherjacket ; i’m gonna make the same post twice, or i’ll just reblog myself over there 🫡
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
• I’ve been writing since autumn of 2016 and I’ve somehow only published 4 works lol
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
• 59,804
3. What fandoms do you write for?
• The X-Files, and Ghostbusters (2016) mostly. I do also have a Thelma and Louise WIP that I hope to get back into soon, and I’m also very eager to write some Hacks stuff at some point :)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
• I just have the 4, but the order is:
1. Thunder Only Happens When It’s Raining
2. A Christmas Theory
3. Erin and Holtzmann’s Halloween Adventure
4. “Am I Gay?”
5. Do you respond to comments?
• I always try! That being said, I do have ADHD.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
• None of my finished fics have angsty endings! Don’t get me wrong, I love to put my characters in Situations, but I do always have to resolve them, or else, to me, it doesn’t feel like the fic is finished. I love to read all kinds of fics, happily resolved or not. When I write, though, I HAVE to write angst, but I also have to resolve it. Those are my friends in there; they will be dragged to hell and back, but I have to make sure they’re chillin’ at the end of it all!
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
• all of them :)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
• If I have, I’ve never seen it with my own eyes; all of my comments have thankfully been so positive!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
• I like to, yes! There doesn’t always have to be smut, it depends on on which characters I’m writing and what the overall goal of the fic is. I prefer to write f/f, but would write m/f ONLY for MSR.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
• There was a period of time a few years ago when my ex and I would write crossovers with different characters that Sarah Paulson has played (especially all the AHS ones). We’d figure out which ones had chemistry, and how they would meet and interact. But outside of that, I don’t think I have!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
• I hope not!!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
• Not to my knowledge
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
• I’ve more or less been a beta for someone else, but I’ve never co-written! I’m so controlling, and when I have an idea, the journey I take to get to the end product is so fun for me. So, I don’t know if I would be able to co-write without getting possessive over my narrative 😂
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
• Holtzbert (Ghostbusters 2016) has been my strongest ship since 2016, when I came out. This was the first movie I saw in theaters after realizing I was gay and it gave me a massive crush on both Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig. Every late summer-autumn since then, the giggly feelings I get for them start back up again in my heart, like clockwork. Now, MSR has not replaced them, but damn they’ve taken up a lot of room in my brain. The only reason MSR hasn’t fully taken over, is because I could also just have Scully x Any Woman and be 100% happy. But with Holtzbert, those two are getting together every single time.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
• I have a Thelma and Louise fic that takes place in a realm where they drive off the cliff and do not die. It explores them figuring out how to finally get away undetected and they start to discover feelings for one another along the way! It’s really fleshed out and ai love how it’s coming along, so I don’t think that I’ll NEVER finish it, but with Dana Scully being at the forefront of my mind, I think it’ll take me a long time to get fully back into that story.
16. What are your writing strengths?
• I think I’m very good at writing angst, and also at setting the scene with really imagery-heavy paragraphs. I love writing witty, fun dialogue, but I think I’m great at world building. I want the reader to see what I see in my head.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
• Staying in the tense that I started with! I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to do, but when I’m stream-of-consciousness-writing, like I tend to do, I truly have to stop every couple of paragraphs and check to make sure that I haven’t started writing in a completely different tense 😂
I think I’m also not great at writing one-shots, or sticking with pure smut or pure fluff, because I always have to throw in some angst and draw the story out to its absolute limit! But, I really like that about my writing. It does happen to be a factor in why I don’t finish a lot of the fics I start, but hey…
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
• I don’t really have thoughts on this. All of my fandoms are in English, so that’s how I write, but I’m not opposed. I think incorporating different languages in stories only deepens the world, because duh!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
• Ghostbusters (2016)
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
• Thunder Only Happens When It’s Raining, and my current X-Files WIP. The latter because I’m obsessed with writing Scully, she’s so interesting. And the former because it was my first fandom, my first ship, and my first fic. I’m so nostalgic for that time. It’s been 10 years, so it may not be the masterpiece I thought it was when I wrote it, but the process of writing it was so invigorating! I loved exploring the characters, and the ideas and words just poured out of me. Since then, I haven’t written a fic with such fervor and focus until working on the WIP I’m writing now. It must be something about writing for a fandom/ set of characters for the first time, it’s so exciting to learn them.
I don’t know who from all the folks I follow actually writes fics, so if you don’t, please disregard. I’m gonna tag @scullee @mulders-slutty-black-turtleneck @rosenkranz-does-things @wicked-96 @theehighwarlock @glimmerscully @dartmoorpixie @h0lywaters @thatonerubberduck

Thinking about the fact that my sister suggested that you can tell whether someone’s queer based off their opinion on Ghostbusters: Answer The Call and I mean she does have a point…
Anyways… I can’t believe almost 9 years have passed and I’m still thinking about these two 🫶🫶
if there are still any active holtzbert heads out there, this is your sign to finish your fics, post your fics! i wanna read and i miss my little gay ghost babies!
okay, that is all, thank you 🙂↕️
