Holocene is a HP Next Gen small group centered around the new generation of Hogwarts students during a golden era of peace, fragile as these halcyon days may be, for the youth have a fire in their bellies that refuses to be smothered. This group will start out during the summer of 2023 and be essentially plotless at first, to give everyone the chance to establish their muses and develop connections. Then, later on when weâre about to transition the characters into the school year, we will collaborate as a group on where weâd like to take the roleplay, so all of us can contribute to the plot and world building. Holocene is meant to be a chill space where we can band together and create something beautiful. There will definitely be lots of events and tasks created by the admin, but if you have any ideas for your own, you are more than encouraged to share. Groups are a joint effort, and itâs incredibly important to me that you all feel involved in the process and that weâre all enthusiastic about where the rp is headed.

RULES.
Cursed Child is not canon here, only the books. AU portrayals of the canons are not only welcome but encouraged, so feel free to place them in whatever house youâd like. The best aspect of Next Generation is the freedom we have to interpret characters however we wish. Since this is an AU, canon ages may be bent. Victoire, Teddy, and James should be incoming seventh years. Rose, Albus, and Scorpius should be incoming sixth years. And Lily and Hugo should be incoming fifth years. The ages of all the other canons are up to the muns!
Although this is an informal small group, all of the normal rules of roleplaying still apply. These common sense rules include (but arenât limited to): Donât godmod. Donât powerplay. Cut your posts unless youâre mobile to keep the dash tidy. Tag your triggers and keep smut under a read more. Do not use large 500px gifs on the dash as they can slow down computers. Keep your blogs and replies legible and accessible. (This includes no sub + small text. Small text is the smallest you can use, but make sure itâs readable on your blog as well.) If you need clarification on any of these, please feel free to ask!
This rp is likely to contain mature themes, and thus, I donât feel comfortable accepting any muns under the age of eighteen. That being said, while we might have some mature themes in this roleplay, this does not include taboo plots such as incest or pedophilia. This is probably another one of those common sense rules, but I just want to make sure weâre all on the same page! In addition, sensitive/important topics such as mental illness, disabilities, abuse, gender, race, sexuality, drug and alcohol misuse, etc. are not allowed go under-researched or poorly portrayed.
Remember to give your character flaws and weaknesses. Itâs not at all expected that your muse should be fully developed by the start of the roleplay, but please try your best to give them depth and remain realistic. Just like we arenât perfect, neither should our characters be. And while muses are certainly allowed (and expected!) to change over time and contradict themselves, major character and plot development should not happen overnight. Characters can certainly be unpredictable, but please do your best to stay IC and think their actions through.
Deceased face claims, face claims who have committed a serious crime, face claims deemed highly problematic, and face claims who do not wished to be used are banned from this roleplay. Additionally, I have made the decision to also ban face claims that trigger any members, as I want this to be a safe place for everyone. If you are a member who is triggered by a FC due to their past actions, please donât be afraid to come to me, and I will be happy to ban them for you. Your comfort is very important to me. Try to use your best judgement, but if you arenât sure whether your face claim will be welcome here, please feel free to send in a message! Iâd be happy to discuss it with you.
Our activity limit is seven days, so if itâs been over a week since Iâve heard from you, your role might be reopened. However, Iâm very lenient with hiatuses and semi hiatuses, so please donât be afraid to ask for one if you need it! And if you are removed for inactivity, youâre always welcome back when you have more time on your hands!
This will be considered a literate rp, but itâs also meant to be a lowkey environment. All mediums of roleplay are allowedâgif paras, threads, texts, snapchat threads, etc.âso you can rp however youâd like. As long as youâre dedicated and friendly, Iâm happy to have you! This roleplay will be completely laidback and chill. I just want everyone to enjoy themselves and see what we can create together as a beautiful, little community!
Iâm really aiming for a friendly OOC community. We will have an discord chat where members are welcome to chat and plot, and Iâll be watching the starter tag very carefully to ensure that no one is being ignored, so just know that I wonât tolerate bubble roleplaying. I understand that muses are finicky, but itâs always awful to be the odd one out, and I donât want you to be afraid to come to me if you feel left out. I really want this roleplay to become a welcoming place.
To encourage a welcoming OOC environment, every member is required to reach out to at least three people you donât already know to plot connections. I know it can be intimidating to ask if someone wants to plot, but in order for a group to thrive, we have to interact with each other! Everyone must also like all the character introductions that are posted -- there will be a tracked tag, so itâll be easy to keep up with them. In addition, you must respond to two open starters before posting an open starter of your own. If you reblog an ask meme, you must pay it forward and send out memes to the other people whoâve reblogged it. I will be reminding you of these rules once we start, and I might add onto them as well.
I know itâs hard sometimes, but please try to treat everyone with respect, kindness, and civility. In the unfortunate event that there is OOC drama or issues with another member, I encourage you to approach me, so I can help solve it! Thatâs what Iâm here for, after all.
No racism, transphobia, homophobia, xenophobia, antisemitism, ableism, etc. under any circumstances. It will not be tolerated, and neither will abusive behavior.
As of right now, you are only allowed two muses. Once the roleplay starts, you will be allowed to take up more if you wish, but first I just want you to have a chance to settle in with your initial characters. Please remember that you will be held to the activity limit on all of your muses and try not to take more than you can handle.
At the minimum, every other muse you take must be a person of color. And of course, we will not tolerate whitewashing, so if your character is canonically a POC, your FC choice must be a POC as well. But remember that representation is not about fulfilling quotas; I expect research and care to be put into these characters to avoid playing into harmful stereotypes.
All major plots should be ran by me. I will most likely say yes, as you are ultimately in control of your muses, but Iâd just like to be made aware!
In the application section, there is a place for you to mention any triggers that you have, as I want to make sure this is a safe space for everyone. These will be kept anonymous and placed on a trigger list, so please be sure that you tag any triggers thatâs on the list, in addition to common triggers that arenât mentioned. NSFW posts should be tagged as such and kept under a read more as well. If youâre talking in the chat and any triggers or NSFW content come up, be sure to place some sort of warning there as well. If someone is uncomfortable in the chat, I might ask you to just change the subject entirely -- letâs just please remember to be respectful of everyone!
SOCIO-POLITICAL CLIMATE.
Under the steady leadership of Kingsley Shacklebolt, wixen society isnât nearly as archaic and traditional as it used to be. As the world slowly rose from the ashes of the Second Wizarding War, Minister Shacklebolt made a priority out of educating wixes on muggles. Proper integration was the only way the wizarding world could move forward -- after all, a civilization that remains trapped in medieval times is only doomed to repeat history.
Muggle Studies is no longer an elective at Hogwarts but a compulsory course. Students do not only learn about the culture of muggles but are also taught math and science. With the creation of wwww (world wide wix web), technology is now allowed at Hogwarts although students are still forbidden to bring their phones to class. (Naturally, most people do it anyways.) There are televisions and computers in the common rooms that are free for anyone to use. Cell service and WIFI havenât been perfected just yet, but everyone knows that youâll always have full bars in the Room of Requirement. There are purebloods who still cling to their antiquated ways and refuse to utilize muggle technology, but these days, there are few and far between.
Minister Shacklebolt also sought to rehabilitate the Ministry and rid it of corruption and prejudice. Gone is the Fountain of Magical Brethren, replaced with a statue that promotes equality among magical beings and muggles. Crooked Ministry officials were removed from office and tried in front of the Wizengamot, along with suspected Death Eaters. Most of them were found guilty and sentenced to a lifetime in Azkaban, but some (most notably the Malfoys) managed to walk free. Dementors, however, were removed from Azkaban and replaced with wixen guards and security. The werewolf registry was also abolished, and spearheaded by Hermione Granger, there has been massive reform on the prejudiced laws for magical creatures in general.
With how difficult it has been to continue to hide magic from muggles, especially now that thereâs technology in play, there have been talks of abolishing the Stature of Secrecy entirely. This has brought forth a rejuvenation in blood purist rhetoric, many calling for Shackleboltâs removal from office. Old habits die hard, it seems, and only time will tell if these halcyon days will continue.
SUMMER PROGRAMS.
Please note that these programs are highly selective as theyâre world-class organizations who receive thousands of applications per year. Everyone knows that the accepted students build invaluable connections for their future, and thus they only accept the best of the best. Itâs not mandatory at all for your muse to be a part of these if it doesnât fit their characterization. They were simply provided for world building purposes and to help establish some ways for characters to interact. But rest assured, if your character is not involved in any summer programs, there will still be plenty of ways for them to connect with other muses!

Young Quidditch players from all across the country have to compete in an intense tryouts for a slot on the Under-18 UK Quidditch team. Seven lucky players will be coached by renowned player Oliver Wood, training in world-class Quidditch pitches and traveling across the globe for games. The UK team were last yearâs champions and are the favorites to win again this year. If they play well, thereâs a good chance they will be scouted for professional teams after graduation.

Interns will work at the Ministry department of their choice for the duration of their summer vacation, and once the program is completed, they receive a glowing letter of recommendation from their department head to be placed on their resume.

Students must have received Eâs or better in Charms, Potions, Healing, Herbology, Muggle Studies, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Transfiguration to qualify.
