Under the table, Mira’s sneaker nudges Zoey’s boot. It’s a rhythmic, absentminded contact, but it sends a hum up Zoey’s spine— a low-frequency buzz that makes the rest of the room go blurry.

zoey’s choice is an amalgamation of things, really. the decline of zoerumi’s relationship is a very slow unraveling, smth with signs scattered over YEARS but they were so small, that it wasnt even noticeable until it was too late. smth that, for rumi’s oblivious self, she could only really guess in hindsight.

yea i wanted to have a pretty good parent celine in this one. not perfect, but helps more than harms for the most part. any damage she does is very inadvertent and comes from a good place.

Rumi laughs first, soft, bright, perfectly timed, like she always does, like she’s been doing her whole life. Zoey knows that laugh all too well.

“Well,” she says, tilting her head just slightly, the picture of modesty, “Zoey’s the sugar—” Zoey feels the word land on her skin like something sticky, something that clings. “— Mira’s the spice,” Rumi continues easily, and Mira hums beside her, amused, already leaning into it, already playing along, “and I’m…” There’s a pause— long enough to feel intentional.

Rumi smiles, small and self-aware and just shy of smug. “Well. I’m everyone’s type.”

The interviewer laughs, delighted. The cameras drink it in.
