Ahhh a Hunchback of Notre Dame retelling with a magical twist? YES PLEASE ๐ This book was so damn captivating ๐ซ I simultaneously wanted to power through it but didn't want it to end ๐ I am utterly enamoured with Bastien ๐ he is dark and dangerous and mysterious and compassionate and sensitive and strong and definitely not real but DAMN HE'S WONDERFUL ๐ Our other protagonist Grace is fucking brilliant ๐ฅ I wanted to screech THIS GIRL IS ON FIRRRREEEE several times in the book for her theme song ๐คฃ she's seriously such a boss and I love her and love her interactions with Bastien and particularly Her team โค The plot moves smoothly and there's a great balance of intricate scenes building tension and character and overall plot progression ๐ really it's fantastic. It's brilliant. I love it. I fucking love it. I have several notes in my Kindle app from emotional scenes where it's purely emotive responses of "AWEEE", "OMGGGG", "WTF IS THIS?! " and my personal favorite emotional response...
