Ever since she last saw Hollis her mind had been spiralling. She never felt her mind quite at such a level of unease as it was now. He truly kept his promise — that he would rock her world — but maybe not in the way she imagined it would happen. Because although she now she always thinks of him as her boyfriend fucks her, wishing it was Hollis instead, she's also now thinking ahead of that. To what it may be. To all the possibilities that Hollis incorporated. He was desire in person, the kind of man you would only get to look at once upon a time in your life if you were maybe lucky. She felt privileged knowing she had the pleasure, literally, of meeting him like this. She knew he had much more to offer than her boyfriend. But she couldn't bring herself to do it. She still hoped that someday, preferably really fucking soon, he would realise that she lowkey hates him now. And it was absolutely Hollis' fault for that. Her's a little bit too but she didn't want to bother herself with that right now.
She hasn't messaged him since then. He didn't reach out to her either. It made her feel like she might have did something wrong that she didn't account for. Nevertheless, her courage fell short when she thought about messaging him. Maybe he just realised what kind of person she was. A cheater. Once a cheater, always a cheater as the saying goes. But she knew that she wasn't like that. She was an opportunist at best. She saw a shiny piece of jewellery and couldn't help herself. It would have felt wrong if she didn't accept the opportunity of jumping on a 6'4 tall guy with long blonde hair and the most beautiful face she's ever seen. Even if it was at the expanse of her boring boyfriend. If he was in her place — face to face with his ideal type — he for sure would have done the same to her, she hopes.
She hated this. Standing in front of the mirror she took a hold of her image in the mirror. Her boyfriend had a work gala, a stupid party where they would have to go and she had to pretend she's in love to him as he presents her as some expansive dame to other men in the music industry. She guesses that her boyfriend being an audio engineer had it's perks. Who knew maybe he would finally be entertaining and introduce her to some pretty young artists she could take to bed next. She giggled at the thought, spinning in the mirror.
Her dress fit her perfectly. It was a pretty red number, perfectly tailored to her body. It had a pretty skin-color bodice that matched her skin tone perfectly, with intricate red lace covering it. The sweetheart necklace worked perfectly, pushing her breasts closer to the Gods above than they've ever been. She swears she would envy herself if she could. Grabbing her phone, the thought of sending a dirty picture to Hollis crossed her mind. The rational part of it decided against it though, as she couldn't have her boyfriend ask why her girlfriend "Holly" was messaging her that she's so hard it's hurting. With a sly smile on her face she finished her up-do, pinning different strands of hair in different patterns so that they would look messy enough to look low-effort, but elegant enough to not make her seem careless. She reached her hand hesitantly over the necklace her boyfriend had bought her as an anniversary present. It had a gold chain and a lovely red ruby pendant that now hanged teasingly close to her cleavage. She felt bad wearing it. Like she didn't deserve to wear his kindness so close to her heart. Putting her heels on, she completely disassociated as her boyfriend complimented her. Multiple times. She wishes he would have done something different. Like pinning her to the bed and ruining her red lipstick in disgusting ways. But he wouldn't do that now, would he. Couldn't risk being late.
As the Uber picked them up, the night air felt somehow finite — like something weird was about to happen. Even if she completely hated these work galas, she felt as though that wasn't the reason the air was weird tonight. It was definitely something else. But she didn't dwell on it as the car drove steadily to the location, a big ballroom with intricate decor that she knew it had to cost more than triple of her boyfriend's salary. She smiled forcefully as he excitedly told her about what was going to happen tonight. She didn't care but in the silent car she didn't have many options left then to listen to him talk — about different producers, investors and young artists bound to be there — she heard him say something about networking and making meaningful connections to other people who worked in the industry. She couldn't give less of a fuck about it. She would have told him so too, if he had asked her what she thought about it.
As they entered, she immediately noticed how packed the ballroom was. She sweared that so many people shouldn't be so close to each other in this scenario. But she guessed that was somehow manipulated in order to bring them closer together in a sick twisted way. She sighed almost silently as they were being led to their table, along to the side, sitting next to some other boring audio engineers that her boyfriend had the "privilege" to call coworkers. She greeted everyone politely as they started discussing about things she didn't care about — they talked about AI and how it would "clean" audios and about what spatial audio was more suited nowadays. She chugged down the drinks offered by the many waiters as much as she could without having her boyfriend glare at her for embarassing him in front of his so-important coworkers.
After a painfully long conversation, he finally stood up next to her, grabbing her arm while mumbling something about mingling with the others. She wished this would be over soon as they went through pairs and pairs of other people who seemed to be somehow interested in what her stupid boyfriend had to say. Her eyes were almost closing now as they were approaching the next person they would strike up a conversation with, although conversation would be a big word for what she was doing — standing next to him smiling sweetly at every old man whose gazes didn't reach her eyes because of her boobs. It eased her mind to think that they were just admiring her necklace. Her boyfriend led the way, tapping some tall lady on the back. She heard her exclaim happily.
"There you are!" the older lady laughed as she turned, hugging him in a professional manner, "And who must this wonderful lady be?" she asked extending her hand politely to the lady.
"My name is Y/N L/N, nice to meet you ma'am." she smiled politely taking in the height of the other woman, her white hair shining faintly in the light.
"My girlfriend." Her boyfriend said smiling as he hugged her closer to his side, his hand over her hip acting like this lady would steal her from him.
She watched the older woman tap a young man on the shoulder, probably wanting to introduce her husband or her plus one or whoever he was to them. She was already lost in the decor of the nearby table, counting the many flowers adorning it, wishing time would pass faster.
"This is my son, Hollis." the woman said as he raised up from the table. "You may know him."
"2hollis, right?" she passingly heard her boyfriend say, but she was too disassociated to turn around, even if she thought passingly that the name sounded familiar, the drinks and the tiredness making her flimsy around the edges.
"Pleasure to meet you, sir."
As the words left his mouth, her head snapped immediately, almost like she was electrocuted. Her eyes widened in shock as she came face to face with him. Her boyfriend — and his mom, apparently — right next to them. Her heart was beating at a 1000 miles per hour, her throat dry as she looked him up and down. He looked exquisite. Somehow even more enticing than the two other times she had seen him before. His hair was curled neatly and he was dressed in a complex suit that somehow was still messy enough to show his personal style. It didn't look perfectly tailored but it looked perfectly fit for him. Hollis was looking her up and down too in the brief seconds just as they realised who each other was. His glance drifted over red lips as he extended his hand, not wanting any of their two companions to catch on the surprise across both of their faces.
"Hollis." He said dryly, trying his best to keep his composure as her perfectly manicured hand took his softly.
"Y/N L/N." her cheeks reddened as Hollis shook her hand briefly before lifting her knuckles to his lips, letting them graze softly along her hand while never breaking eye contact.
"So gentlemanly." she heard her boyfriend say alongside a quick cough next to her as his grip on her hip strengthened in warning almost.
"My bad.. didn't want to push any boundaries." Hollis said backing off in an almost teasingly manner, raising his hands in fake defeat. She couldn't believe his audacity.
Hollis and her looked at each other in passing glances as their companions talked about more seemingly unimportant things. But she was actually invested now, listening to Hollis' mom talk about PR strategies — truth be told, she would have done anything in that moment to not feel Hollis' burning gaze on the side of her face. She was glad she wore a full coverage foundation tonight, as she was sure her boyfriend would have caught on the mutual attraction already. Her cheeks always betraying her. Hollis interrupted her boyfriend suddenly.
"So..how did you manage to get this wonderful lady to be yours?" Hollis said with an almost mean smile on his lips.
"Just- just luck..I guess" she almost smiled as she heard the stuttering phrase her boyfriend splashed out at Hollis.
"Real luck" Hollis said raising his eyebrows.
"Yes" she felt his annoyance as he somehow managed to pull her even closer. She felt uncomfortable, but she would be lying if she said that Hollis rage-baiting her boyfriend didn't make her feel soothed.
"Be careful, don't know who could steal her" Hollis laughed quietly, as he and his mom sat back down.
She felt the tension in ways that she didn't know were possible as her boyfriend walked her back to their own table. Spewing words about how egotistical these young artists were nowadays, thinking the world is theirs and not acknowledging respect "the way he was taught". She almost laughed at the ridiculousness. He really had no clue.
After the formal dinner, she watched her boyfriend rise up, excusing himself as he made his way towards another group of old people. She was glad she previously complained about being sick, wishing he would leave her alone for just a moment, to catch her breath. She was glad when she finally got to sit one of the boring conversations out. She hadn't noticed however, the way Hollis' eyes were watching her the whole night, in a way almost predatory. Not until she got the text.
Meet me in the bathroom. Now.
