Holdan is an LA based songwriter and crooner who likes to defy genres with his brand of alt pop music. Bright Red is his latest such creation, an effortless kaleidoscope of absorbing production, hip hop beats, and smooth pop that divulges deep issues and personal battles of self-realization. Bright Red captures the melancholy moments of this compelling artist’s past, while also providing an uplifting sonic soundscape that crosses boundaries. It kicks off with oh-ohs that remind us of Tove Lo’s Habits, then melds dulcet pop with Jai Wolf-like effervescence and an R&B tone reminiscent of Khalid. There’s even some rough punk edginess at choice moments that evoke Yungblud and the like. Holdan explains of Bright Red: “I would go to all of these house parties and I would be the one in the middle of everyone dancing just jumping screaming and losing my shit, and you either loved that or you hated it,” says Holdan on the track. “It reminds me of my whole past because I’ve been loud and insane my whole life and everyone’s kinda looked down on me or thought I was weird because of it, and I try to not worry about it but I go back and forth between not giving a fuck what they think, but also to only focusing on what they think of me. So the song is just kind of depicting the mental battle I struggle with throughout every day." Bright Red is out now via Red Umbrella Records.
