headcanon: the reason adora doesn't take her hair down at night is because she's convinced she might need to wake up in the middle of night and protect someone and she can't do that if she has hair in her eyes. when catra tells her to take it down in don't go (noelle's fic) that's a Big Step And Revelation because it feels like she's telling her that it's okay for her to relax etc and after the war she gets progressively more comfortable with having her hair down more of the time and accepting that she doesn't need to be the hero all the time. and idk i can't quite verbalise it and it might need a different post but i think it's interesting that a lot of the time we see adora with her hair down it's when she's at her most vulnerable
