Recycle Research (Thursday, 25th of January 2018)

Earlier this week, we were given a new brief for Block 2 called “Recycle”. This brief asks us to use recycled objects or materials to construct a still life image. 

Final Image for The Gift (Tuesday, 2nd of January 2018)

The contact sheet above shows the progress I made throughout the photoshoot for “The Gift”. The object I chose from the black bag was a pack of disposable latex gloves. My aim was to capture the various different forms, which the gloves made from a bit of twisting, pulling and squishing.  

I wanted to include colour into my photoshoot for this brief as I found the colour of the latex gloves incredibly boring.

Earlier this week, we were given a new brief for Block 2 called “Recycle”. This brief asks us to use recycled objects or materials to construct a still life image.

I have chosen another six images from Google as inspiration for my photoshoot for this new project. In this second post of research for “Recycle”, I have particularly focused on objects and materials with texture. I have chosen these images as inspiration because they are all lit well and composed in an interesting way. I love the the scuffed, scratched and bumpy surfaces of the wood and steel in each image above.

Edward S. Curtis

Edward Sheriff Curtis (16th of February, 1868 - 19th of October, 1952) was an American photographer and ethnologist known for photographing the Native American Indians and western culture during 1900 to 1930.

“At the beginning of the 20th Century, Curtis worked in the belief that he was in a desperate race against time to document, with film, sound and scholarship, the North American Indian before white expansion and the federal government destroyed what remained of their natives’ way of life.” - Smithsonian.com

PASSPORT PHOTO TASK, 31.09.17, HND1

The first task we were asked to do in HND was a ‘Passport photo’ workshop. After doing some research on passport photos and what the rules and regulations on them were, using the studio set up and lighting etc we all had to get a photo of ourselves that we were happy with but also met the requirements for an official passport photo. 

Key tips for taking a passport photograph:

The photo must be taken against a plain, light background, ie white or light grey.

Photo dimenson of 35mm x 45mm

The area from the top of the head to the chin must be no less than 29mm, no longer than 34mm high. 

Full face/head and the top of the shoulders in the frame.

The model must be facing forward, looking straight into the camera with a straight face - no smiling. 

No glasses, hair in face, hats, scarfs or other accessories. 

Nothing else apart from the subject model in the frame.
