In a world where some of Broadway's greatest hits constantly turn to the silver screen for more acknowledgment, there still exists your every day fan who doesn't quite know exactly what all the commotion is with these musicals.
Fortunately, as both a Broadway fanatic and a musical theater graduate, I'm here to help educate some of my lesser knowledgeable coworkers, in a RACHEL BERRY and FINN HUDSON collaboration of: A GUY WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT MUSICALS, EXPLAINS MUSICALS.
For this article, I showed Finn a series of images and screencaps relating to various popular musicals and then let him explain it to me.

ONE: WICKED
Rachel: Let's start with an easy one. It's a very popular musical, and I'm hoping after working with me for a couple of years you know at least the name of it, but also the two characters pictured and their relationship to one another.
Finn: I actually do know this one. The musical is Wicked, and the green one is the Wicked Witch of the West, but her name is Elphie or something in this. And the blond is Glinda like in the Wizard of Oz. I think they're supposed to be friends here, but that makes no sense because of the movie.
Rachel: Look, see, you do know more than you know. The musical/book take place mostly prior to the events in The Wizard of Oz, as a backstory. They were roommates in college. Ready for round two?
POINTS: 1
TWO: WEST SIDE STORY
Finn: This is the one with the fighting gangs that all wear the same tennis shoes.
Finn: And the one guy is named Tony. That's why they named them the Tony Awards, right? Because the character is that awesome?
Rachel: They're actually named after Antoinette Perry, but you have the rest right!
POINTS: 2
THREE: CATS
Finn: What the crap is that supposed to be?
Rachel: It's one of the longest running musicals of all time.
Finn: That tells me nothing, Rachel.
Rachel: The answer should be pretty obvious, Finn.
Finn: It looks like a homeless person fell face first into the makeup counter in the mall.
Rachel: It's Grizabella the Glamour Cat, from Cats!
Finn: She looks like a mess. That's not glamorous.
Rachel: Let's just move on, shall we?
POINTS: 2
FOUR: ANNIE
Finn: That's Annie! I saw the TV movie version of that with my mom when I was twelve.
Rachel: For a bonus point, do you remember Daddy Warbucks assistants name?
Finn: I don't know what it is, but it's not Sara.
Rachel: It's Grace. Grace Farrell. So, yes, definitely not Sara.
POINTS: 3
FIVE: GREASE
Finn: That's Grease. That's the only musical I ever sat through, but everyone knows Grease.
Rachel: You'd be surprised, but I'm glad you do know at least one. I take it you enjoyed Grease?
Finn: Yeah, it was pretty good. I mean, I was eight, and I wanted people in it to karate chop each other, but I enjoyed it.
POINTS: 4
SIX: RENT
Finn: This is the one where everyone is poor and they all have AIDs. All of them
Finn: It's like an AIDs support group movie
Finn: And the one dressed like a fabulous lady Santa dies.
Rachel: Do you remember what it's called at all?
Finn: I may have half been paying attention to this the one time you watched it at your desk.
Finn: I think it's called Rent
Rachel: You're not supposed to tell people I watch movies at my desk, Finn, but yes it's Rent. Most of the originating Broadway cast starred in the movie, for a little fun fact.
Finn: You were doing work while you watched it.
POINTS: 5
SEVEN: NEXT TO NORMAL
Finn: That's the guy with the fun hair from Les Mis!
Finn: But he doesn't have on his fancy red jacket, so it's not Les Mis.
Finn: I have no idea what this is.
Rachel: Aaron Tveit is a pretty big star, all things considered. He's been in at least three Broadway productions, a handful of other theater productions, Les Mis and a few television shows.
Rachel: This one, in particular, is Next to Normal. Do you have any idea what that one's about?
Finn: It looks like he and his dad are making his mom really uncomfortable.
Rachel: He's actually a ghost in the musical, so his father can't see him.
Finn: Does he die in everything?
Rachel: Yes.
Finn: Is that his thing?
Finn: That's kind of sad.
Rachel: It is, but it's proof that he's a phenomenal actor that he manages to pull off death scenes and the aftermath of such exquisitely.
Rachel: Also, most musicals are sad. So there is that.
POINTS: 5
EIGHT: THE LAST FIVE YEARS
Finn: I was gonna say that's the Little Mermaid because of the boat, but the girl is blonde, so that's not it
Rachel: No, although there is a Broadway version of the Little Mermaid!
Finn: I know my Disney.
Finn: I just don't know this thing.
Rachel: It's The Last Five Years; they're making it into a movie, actually. Which leads us into number 9...
POINTS: 5
NINE: INTO THE WOODS
Finn: That is the most terrifying looking cow I have ever seen.
Finn: Why would you do that? Why?
Rachel: Mostly because I knew your face would be priceless, and I was right. I wish I'd had my camera ready for it.
Finn: Rude. But it's Into the Woods, and they made Meryl Streep into a witch. And that girl from Pitch Perfect is a princess.
Rachel: See! You do know more than you think.
Finn: I just know about Anna Kendrick. I like her.
POINTS: 6
TEN: KINKY BOOTS
Finn: The woman in the blue really likes shoes.
Finn: She's looking for the person with the best shoes in the city.
Rachel: Not exactly; does the name 'Kinky Boot's ring any bells at all?
Finn: I know that people talked about it a lot when it came out and it has something to do with drag queens.
Rachel: It was inspired by a true story and Cyndi Lauper wrote the music for it, and yes, there are drag queens in it.
POINTS: 6
ELEVEN: PIPPIN
Finn: So they're allowed to stage orgies now? That's progressive.
Rachel: Definitely not an orgy.
POINTS: 6
TWELVE: MAMMA MIA
Rachel: Now time for one of my favorites!
Finn: That is the end of that ABBA musical where everyone's clothes are just embarrassing.
Rachel: They're not embarrassing! Mamma Mia is a classic, even if it's a guilty pleasure for most.
Finn: The one girl is in neon pink, and she has wings. That's embarrassing.
POINTS: 7
THIRTEEN: CHICAGO
Finn: Okay, is that Chicago? Because that one girl looks like the girl on the movie poster for Chicago.
Rachel: It is Chicago! What do you know about Chicago?
Rachel: And 'it takes place in Chicago' doesn't count.
Finn: It's about women who kill people, and sometimes you sing the Cell Block Tango under your breath at work.
Rachel: This is turning into more of a test on how well you know me than Broadway.
Finn: And I think everyone wants to sleep with the guy on the movie poster.
Finn: That's what happens when my desk is next to yours. I can't help it.
Rachel: It's more about power and fame than it is sex.
POINTS: 8
FOURTEEN: ONCE
Finn: That is the mom from How I Met Your Mother.
Finn: She's starring in a musical about her life before she met Ted.
Rachel: Cristin Milioti, but not even close on the plot.
Rachel: I know you can come up with the name of this one; Blaine and I sung a song at the last holiday party from this musical. It was a huge Tony winning production.
Finn: Is this Once then? That's what Falling Slowly was from?
Rachel: Yes!
POINTS: 9
FIFTEEN: THE BOOK OF MORMON
Rachel: Last one!
Finn: This is the Book of Mormon. The Mormons go to Africa where everyone has AIDs except for like one person, and they try and bring them religion.
Finn: I'm a fan of Josh Gadd, and he sings in this, so I know about it.
Finn: I think he becomes African Jesus.
Rachel: All in all, you ended up with 10 out of 15 correct, even if I had to guide you to a few. Maybe we should change the name of the article.
Rachel: Or maybe we just need to move your desk away from mine.
Finn: I'm smarter than I thought. Looks like you're rubbing off on me.
