tell me what to do. tell me what you need.
* THERE ARE MANY NIGHTS THAT PASS WHERE YOU WAKE UP distressed. you do not know why that is, why you seem to be so inconsolable, & why you cannot seem to stop this HOLLOW pain in your chest that only grows worse. you do not mean to stir your brother up from his rest, to trouble him with this grief that you do not know how to HANDLE. a part of your head rationalizes that it is normal not to understand ; your family is falling apart, your life that you have grown comfortable with is slowly CRUMBLING down right before your eyes and this weight is too heavy for your body. your tears are thick and heavy, every cry coming out STRAINED in hopes that it does not wake your mother.
( it took you and your brother's COMBINED efforts to get her to settle for the night. )
you do not mean to add on to his plate, to be such a handful. he is trying his best to be here for you, the least that you could do is to NOT be so selfish and take up this time by leaving him guessing. you have already done enough damage by waking him up with your upsetting cries. he has bigger obligations in school, you should not weigh him down by BEING like this. if you could just wake up normal, maybe then you would be someone more digestible for your sibling. maybe you wouldn't have to BOTHER him so much. your hiccuping fills the room as you remain holding on to him, this sadness to big for your bodies to carry. you know he did not want this too.
" i'm sorry. " asriel, your rock, your bestest friend, wants you to pick up your mouth and tell him what is wrong. yet you can only SHAKE. this is the only thing that can ground you. you would not know what you would do with yourself if he ever goes away. everybody has LEFT you two to your own devices. what more when even he has to part ? it wouldn't be his fault. you know it ——— and you know it well. cumbersome, this heartache is. it feels like a neverending HEARTACHE. a sense of despair that you cannot crawl away from.
you bury your head into his chest, hoping for warmth. stability. SOMETHING to reinforce the fact that he is here. tangible. someone who will not fade away. you are a troubled kid. something is wrong with you. yet you can at least cling on to a level of normalcy with asriel around. you want something ABSOLUTE. something that will no longer frighten you. you need something that cannot be attainable now. with your smaller hands, your fist grasping on to his sweater while your tears shed into his fur, you weep softly.
a kid. kids. you two are just kids. you cannot COMPREHEND why it is that you have to struggle like you aren't. " don't go. "
