Recently we participated at an annual tradition - a ~20km long hike in the region of South Bohemia. The weather was okayish in the sense, that it was 8 degrees in fucking January. The light conditions for taking pictures were atrocious, cloudy and overcast day, with shitty contrast and terrible sky. Not to mention that since we have spring in the middle of January, the landscape looked like it was shat on by a giant and then trampled by a horde of wild boars.
But the atmosphere and the organisation of the whole thing was beautiful. Many stops on the way (mostly in pubs), 4 mandatory checkpoints to check if you are not cheating and not dehydrated (this just means more beer and booze), friendly people everywhere and meeting old friends, what can beat that?
Two sheep cautiously looking at the attendees in one of the villages we passed.
The overall landscape was a mix of brown, brownish and some green. Anyway, a wonderful house next to a pond. Fun fact, there are around 24 000 ponds in Czechia and most of them in South Bohemia.
Flat misery in black and white.
A lot of old houses, hidden in the woods, along the way. Some inhabited, some not.
Had to fight with Lightroom on this one a bit. Luckily the GR3 has great DR. The fields we marched on were a constant strip of mud and water. Felt like walking towards Mordor.
From muddy fields to country roads to paved roads, we had it all. Not many cars though.
Traditional sausage roasting over fire at one of the checkpoints.
Onwards to the forest.
Another village, another pond. Someone was having schnitzels for lunch, we could all smell them.
This friendly guy was freezing at the last checkpoint, but he was always smiling, stamping your papers and giving out Czech "rum". What a friend!
Marching towards sunset.
Shadows were getting longer and the road shorter.
