Found my old iPod today and was delighted to find some of my favorite songs still exist on here. I found Son House and Big Mama Thornton as a graduate student at #highpointuniversity. For Dr. @lbrownie’s class I wrote a paper about the dawn of the blues and the roles women singers played in it. Of course most of what I read focused on male artists, but while researching I fell down a rabbit hole and discovered Big Mama, though she didn’t enter the scene until much later. We were treated like royalty and I learned so much from him speaking as well as by his actions. He devotes 3 hours daily to reading and studying! No wonder he is one of the most liked and respected men in the planet! Also blessed to witness on the freshmen’s 1st day of class, where they assembled bicycles as a team building project. Then they were surprised when 150 underprivileged kids walked in to receive the bikes from them. To see the reactions of childlike joy and fulfillment from the kids and the freshmen was absolutely soul-touching. Thank you to my book publisher Raymond Aaron for inviting me to such a prestigious place and to Dr. Nido R. Qubein for the honor of writing the Foreword in my book. Wow!
