For four months, on the first of the month, I will be posting a series called the "Hidden Spells Series". Each post will be a spell in the form of a story.

Why?

Not all witches can practice in the open. Some of us have to be very careful about the things we write in books or journals. These stories are spells complete with items needed and intention. How the spell is performed is up to you and your ability/situation.

The first story will be "The Travelers Candle". It is a story with a protection spell woven into it. Read the story and use visualization to cast the spell, or use the items and hidden intention in the story and perform the spell. Write the stories in a book and masquerade them as a book of fairytales!

There was a traveler who set out on a journey on a path with very little light. They were worried that on their way they could be harmed. Before setting out they were visited by a shining white light who bestowed apon them a black candle. The light from the candle would scare off any harmful forces. The light also gave the traveler bag of salted black peppercorns for those same forces where known to flee at the presence of certain spices.

The traveler began their journey, never deviating from their path. The candle lighting their way and the bag of spices serving as a warning to those who may wish to do the traveler harm. When the black candle finally dimmed, the traveler had reached their destination unharmed and they used the salted peppercorns to prepare a meal in honor and thanks to the white light who guided them through.

ABOUT THE HIDDEN SPELLS SERIES

In the deepest part of the forest, there was a spring of water. The water was the clearest blue you could imagine. The waters were cool and calming. People would visit the spring to relax and enjoy themselves. But there came a time when war across the land surrounding this spring began to cause it to become a place of sorrow and anger.

One day Orlo set out to visit this spring as the war had taken everyone's attention from it and no one had realized the state the spring was in. Orlo brought an amethyst jar filled with lavender seeds and a quartz jar filled with water from a previous visit, when the spring was clear and blue. When Orlo arrived at the spring, instantly the feeling of sadness could be felt coming from the water. Kneeling at the foot of the the spring, Orla sprinkled the lavender seeds from the amethyst jar around the spring and then followed with the clear water from the quartz jar. As the energy from the water from a happier time soaked into the ground, the lavender seeds began to grow!

Orlo watched as the roots from the lavender seemed to reach the spring carrying with it the clear water it was showered in with love. The water in the spring began to clear, the waters turning blue again...and thought Orlo could not stop the war happening outside of the forest, they would visit the spring to remind it that it is not alone.

Hidden Spells

A youngling who was in need of money their farm was having a lot of trouble. Unfortunately, it seemed as though everything they tried ended with closed doors and dead ends. They decided to visit a neighboring farmer who seemed to be very successful. They were a little ways away so the youngling brought with them some basil in to make a meal on his travel. After a bit of walking, they noticed a green cloth laying on the side of the road. They picked up the cloth and underneath there was a golden key! They decided to sit down and prepare their meal, lighting a fire for warmth. The youngling place the remaining basil from their meal into the fire. The fragrance and light filled them with hope for the next day. In the morning, they continued the rest of the way to the farmer's house. When they arrived, the farmer sitting in the porch looking very upset. The farmer explained they had lost the key to their safe which contained the seeds they would need for the next harvest. The youngling reached into their pocket and revealed the key. The farmer was so happy knowing that their farm would be safe now.

The farmer ran into their house and returned with a smaller golden key and a small wooden box. In it, the farmer placed seeds from their own farm and explained to the youngling how to use them, but order for the youngling to continue to have a good harvest, they would someday have to help someone else in turn. The youngling thanked the farmer and returned home. They placed their golden key on a green rope woven from the green cloth and wore it around their neck. They held it any time they were confronted with a situation in which doors had closed or they encounter dead ends and always gave to those who were in need.

In a land far away, a cloud had developed over it. The cloud was ominous and menacing and the people there could not breath most days from the oppressive feeling. There came to be born a baby with the whitest hair ever seen. The baby's hair seemed to clear the air of anyone who stood near it. The baby grew into a child and the child into an adult. One day, while sitting at home huddled by the fire, this person looked into the menacing sky and wondered why their land was this way. They became filled with such overwhelming emotions of care and hope for their people that they began to cry over the fire. Each tear transformed into a small stone of frankincense and with each drop into the flames a bell seemed to chime. With each ring, a wave of smoke eminated from the fire washing over the entire land. The wind carried the frankincense dispelling the ominous energy that surrounded the people. To this day, when the people of that land feel the cloud attempting to roll in, they ring a bell in their homes and the waves of hope and positivity push back the cloud.
