❛ you mean... he is... he is not coming back ?? ❜
the words had a loitering aftertaste salai doubted even the STRONGEST of red wines could block out, a taste salai wished he could forget. this was his fault. it was all his fault. he shouldn’t have been gambling. he shouldn’t have acted so RECKLESSLY. he should’ve protected leonardo. he should’ve helped ezio sooner. he should’ve gone with him to help rescue leonardo. all of the things he should’ve done suffocated him until he was staring blankly at the floorboards, at leonardo’s last words that he couldn’t even COMPREHEND. he tried to get tears to fall, but he had been crying too much the past couple of days to summon the will for even one drop of saltwater.
he couldn’t even find it in him to be mad at ezio, only finding despair & complete heartache where any sort of rage should be. he clutched onto the fur lined edges of his tunic to stop his hands from shaking & took in a MUCH NEEDED breath of oxygen before looking back up at the assassin before him. he knew leonardo had always valued him IMMENSELY, it was glaringly obvious in the way he spoke about him, & in the gossip he had heard around florence. but it seemed even the great ezio auditore da firenze couldn’t save his LOVE. his words were more meek than he had expected when he next spoke, almost as if they were caught somewhere in his throat.
❛ ... please tell me he did not die alone. ❜
