Prologue
Rating: General Summary: When our Heroes need to distract Colonel Klink one Christmas Eve, Colonel Hogan comes up with a scheme that is particularly fit for the season. 2025 PBA Bronze for Best Long Story
The tunnel entrance opened. “Message from London,” Kinch said, climbing out and handing a note to Colonel Hogan. Colonel Hogan looked the note over. “Oh, great. This is just great.” It wasn’t often that the prisoners of Stalag 13 saw their colonel really, truly frustrated. “What is it?” LeBeau asked. “London wants us to pick up some escaped POWs from Stalag 5 in the woods outside of camp. Tonight.” The prisoners all began to speak at once. “Tonight?” “Didn’t we tell them about the tunnels?” “Colonel, we can’t go out—” Colonel Hogan held up a hand. “Hold it,” he said, and his men immediately fell silent. He started to slowly pace around the table, clearly deep in thought. And if his men didn’t know any better, they’d say that he didn’t have any ideas.
