*Aika infected my brain and I wanted to draw her in a bunch of different ways *+ High Guardian Spice because I love High Guardian Spice

I saw a post talking about these two shows being similar (pink mc, dead mom, magical boarding school) and while it physically hurts me to say it they ARE right about this. But this is also a great way to learn what to do and what not to do in design! (This is not an essay on their plots bc I’m an art nerd but if you do want to watch HGS just watch the abridged version it’s a better use of your time lmao)

For now I’m just gonna stick with the promotional posters. It’s not a lot of content but there is still a lot to learn from these! Anyway let’s get started

Gonna turn these bad boys grayscale. Everything look clarified? Can you tell what’s going on? Cool. Which one of these makes use of their contrast to enhance clarity? You got it? Bc now we’re putting it in a blender

Bit harder now. But already you can tell that DS has much clearer silhouettes than HGS. And if you have trouble making it out still it’s cool I went ahead and doodled them in

Anyway next up we’re doing composition. For anyone unfamiliar composition is combining distinct elements to form a whole. And we’re gonna bring color back! (Yay!)

The first thing we gotta know is who is the show about? You can use stuff to point at important things!!

So besides looking cool posters exist for one thing: marketing! Which means the product and how to obtain it should be clear from a quick glance at an advertisement. DS kicks things out of the water again with great readability while HGS is just eh. It takes multiple seconds to find the HGS title and in the graphic design world that is Bad News buddy

Posters also have to give information about the product. So let’s see what we can glean from these two illustrations.

At a glance you can already tell DS is gonna be a magical sports anime. There are multiple factors being used to point this out, including the uniforms, the dynamic posing, and the soccer ball. They’re competing against other people and it’s gonna be flashy as hell.

In HGS I guess they’re going to hang out somewhere in a medieval town or something? But why? Where’s the info? Are they larping?

DS also gives basic info for the main characters! In one picture you can get a glimpse of their personalities and their abilities. It’s very fun and well done. Also the sick af dragon silhouette reinforcing the title and wrapping around the characters. Chefs kiss. They are cooking my brothers. Not much to say about HGS here once again

And lastly here’s my favourite part

With how long illustration and animation takes this was 1,000% planned in advance. Someone on the crew said “hey this is a show about a kid with fire powers so what if we organise them in a composition that mimics a fire?” Whoever planned this you are a genius and I want your autograph.

Anyway that’s all for today. I still need to finish dragon striker actually I got sidetracked doing this lmao. I might make more of these in the future.

We did it last year, bitch! And were doing it again! Reaching across alternate timelines, dimensions, etc. (This year I wanted to do Sages from artists I haven't drawn from yet, basically try to avoid repeats and give several different redesigns a spotlight!) Does a group of Sages count as a coven? Who knows? Anyways, hope you get tons of chocolate, kisses, and all the love you could ever want!

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday, happy Lesbian Visibility Week, and happy Earth Day. I thought I'd share my latest fic, which is suitable for everyone (rated for General Audiences). It mainly brings together characters from SPOP (Glimmer, Bow, Adora, Catra, Castaspella, and General Juliet), but also two from High Guardian Spice (Rosemary and Sage), fulfilling a prompt by a certain user (Any fandom, any ship: formal clothing) on a certain site. Hope you all enjoy it.

The day of the party had finally arrived, a party that would celebrate what Adora and Catra had done for all of them, and to celebrate the end of the war. Castaspella first proposed the idea. She wanted there to be a dance, a cake, and a grand shindig. Most princesses were more than happy to party, but Adora only wanted a private event with her new girlfriend. Casta refused to accept that. She wanted a huge event and Catra agreed, to Adora's surprise. As for Casta, she wanted to introduce her beautiful, wonderful partner to all of them. Since everyone would be wearing their best dresses and suits, it would be the perfect occasion to do so.
