âI promise you! I promise you that this is thâ best place ta get milkshakes at! Forget where ever youâre thinkinâ of, this place? Deans Diner? Is thâ best of thâ best! ând mâ not jusâ sayinâ that âcause I use ta work here either. Sâ thâ truth!â Kazia pushed the older door to the rough looking diner open, and dragged Emma in after her. The building was empty, and the two stood in the door way for a moment, unsure if it was actually open.
At the belated sound of the door ding a middle aged woman came around a corner to greet them and offered them a half smile, âHey there Kaz. You come back for a job? Or for food?â Kazia grinned back and said, âHey ya, Mary! Mâ here ta prove a point on milkshakes. Yâall still okay with makinâ em this late?â The older woman, Mary, chuckled. âYeah weâll make you some. Take a seat anywhere ând Iâll be right up ta take your order.â Mary ducked back around the corner heading into the kitchen.
Kaz hooked her arm around Emmaâs and dragged her friend over to the nearest booth. Once the two were seated Kaz handed Emma a dessert menu and tapped the milkshake list. âMâ favorite is a tie between thâ mint chocolate chip one ând thâ double chocolate one, buâ they do have regular chocolate, vanilla ând strawberry.â
Kazia watched as Emma looked over the list of milkshakes. There were more options than youâd expect at such a place that looked like this, but Kaz and Emma both learned to never judge a book by its cover. Emma set the dessert menu down, smirked at Kaz and tapped an unusual flavor on the list. âI want to try this one. If you say that this place has the best, then weâre just gonna have to see how good their worst is.â âMâ sorry we? If you wanna try that one you cân try it alone. I wanna have my favorite.â Kaz tapped the mint chip one and Emma dragged the menu out of the blondeâs hands. âNope! If I dont like it Iâm gonna make you drink it.â Kazia rolled her eyes at her friends antics but relented.âIâve tried all of their milkshakes here, Em. ând I can tell you that they are all amazing. Including that one.âÂ
Kaz crossed her arms and sat back on her side of the booth just as Mary approached their table, âYou girls ready?â Emma grinned and said, âYup. We want this one.â Emma held the menu up for Mary to read. âJust one?â Mary asked. Kazia nodded, âYeah but only âcause Emma hereâs afraid she wonât like it even though I told her theyâre all amazinâ.â Mary laughed as she started to walk back to the kitchen to get their order, âWell Kaz, for the dinerâs sake I hope youâre friend ends up liking the shake. We canât be having word get out that one of our Top Ten Shakes is bad.â âTrust me! Iâll make sure she likes it!â Kaz shouted back.
Mary came back a few minutes later with the shake in hand and a small thing of fries. âOne shake ând one small order of fries- on the house.â Kazia thanked Mary and wished her a nice end to her shift before turning to Emma. Kaz slid the shake over to Emma and said, âYou ordered. You get first sip.â Emma snorted and pushed the shake into the middle, âHow about we try at the same time? This way I can trust that youâre friend Mary didnât add anything wild to it... well more wild.â Kaz rolled her eyes again, âFine. Fine. Buâ mâ tellinâ you. Sâ gonna be thâ best damn shake youâve ever had.â

The opera house was full for the charity concert. All the rich and important people were queueing on the red carpet outside of the building, waiting for the journalists to take their pictures, or giving interviews about the event. Flashes of photo-cameras and voices of the crowd creating disharmonious noise.Â
It always displeased Amoxtli who every time got a headache in those situations. Fortunately Opera House had a backstage entrance which helped her avoid the general hassle before the concert.Â
She hoped Emma has gotten there on time and would have no problem of getting inside with the tickets the musician has given her lyrics writer.Â
With a heavy sigh she grabbed her flute and adjusted the black dress before going out to join the rest of the orchestra. The even would begin soon.
