The wind roared outside, making the trees rustled in a frenzy background sound, making the emptiness of her home even louder to Hecateās mind as she sat at the head of her dinner table. This time of the year was a synonym or joyful hearts, colorful decorations across oneās house and the smell of food being prepared. However, as Hecate expected, her reality was far from this typical Christmas scenario and even though it wouldnāt surprise her, it still stung to the point of her eyes nearly tearing up.Ā
The bottle of wine rested to her arms length, accompanied by a glass that had not been filled just yet. Her table could accommodate up to eight seats and with a twist of her hand, purple mist arose from the grounds, climbing the chairs legs, taking the shape of some of the people her heart ached for, each on their own chair.Ā
Hecate looked at overall image, a cheerful family rejoicing a Christmas dinner and she smiled a little before turning her focus on each one of them. To her immediate right, there were her daughters, Charlotte first with her calm manners but keeping an eye out for her sisters. Then Cassandra, enthusiastically having her food and perhaps bickering with one of the other guests and being her own little fire ball. Finally Claire, with her gaze fixed on the food, happily smiling while turning her focus from her plate only to answer Cassandra or Charlotte. The goddess eyes lingered in their illusions, imagining how things could have been if she had not trust their father and made herself more present in their lives.
At the other side of the table, sitting at the other head, Persephone could be seen smiling widely, forever enamored with Hades that followed seating besides her and in front of Cassie. Aside from everything that happened the King and Queen of the Underworldās presence was something Hecate cherished.Ā The two last chairs had the shape of Min and Vincent, talking mostly among themselves but also exchanging words with the demi-goddesses in front of them.Ā One of Vincentās hand rested on the table, next to where Hecateās was and she looked at the fading features from her spell as she reached to try touch it, perfectly knowing it would dissipate.Ā
Hecate poured herself a glass of wine, barely managing to keep her posture to sip from it.Ā āMerry Christmas.ā She whispered, the feeling of a tear running down her left cheek contrasting with how warm her skin felt from holding on to her thoughts. Her voices were quiet, cruely so as it made her feel even lonelier.Ā āPerhaps itāll stop hurting. Perhaps this will be my last Christmas Eve.ā

Her eyes opened slowly, admiring the visage before them. He was asleep, so deeply like she had never seen him in the last two years. At last, their efforts brought results and everyone could finally rest, everyone could move forward to the next thing. And thatās exactly why Hecate was unable to shut her eyes. The goddess slithered away from his embrace, silently stepping away into the common room as there was no one there.
Under the pretence sheād be getting herself a cup of water, Hecateās flew as her eyes stared at the reflection from a nearby window, allowing her to face her true form. 'Look what youāve done.'Ā Hecateās voice would still be quiet, but her mind spoke loudly. 'You cannot have him. You cannot have this.' The right head spoke to her, the facts feeling like knives. Hecate had long ago convinced herself that love and romance were something she would never be able to experience. Such humane emotions were weak and in her honesty, she was the weakest at that moment.
His smile, scent and laugh had lingered for too long and too close to her heart. Hecate had become numb, the eternal loneliness sheād built taking over her existence and Vincent came like a hurricane to her life. However, as sweet as she felt, this wasnāt right and Hecate had to fix this and continue her purpose to exist. The two voices became too loud and she shut her eyes for a few seconds, the high-pitched sound buzzing through her brain. 'Enough.'
With a couple of hand gestures and mumbles, Hecate projected a small enchant, gathering her belongings into two suitcases that hovered their way to rest near the front door. Well, that was rather effective, too effective. She could have just left at that moment, it would have been simpler. However, the goddess was incapable and commanded by her heart, her feet took her to stand at the end of their bed. Her mind raced, her throat hurt as she held the tears from falling. Delicately Hecate grabbed the pen and paper on the nightstand from her side of the room, preparing the only three words she could possibly say to him, resting the piece of paper on her pillow. He would eventually wake up to not have her, but to see the only time Hecate would express herself...'I love you.'
Barely an hour passed since she left their place. The hotel room was far from ideal, however, Hecate couldnāt be picky as time was not in her favour. Gathering all the items necessary, the goddess was not at her pick of focus as Hecate battled her own mind and heart at every second. Lights down, deep breath. The enchanting words came slowly, fog coming from her book and thickening as the spell progressed. Soon he would not remember her, soon the pain would be over and soon could she become free of her weakness.
'I wish I had met you sooner.' Vincentās voice echoed, her own memories flooded her mind. Hecate became breathless, choking in a wave of pain, frustration and above anything else, guilt. The spell was physically taxing on the caster and target, however, the emotional sorrow hit stronger and she sat in the hotel bed, draining of energy and the spell had not been completed. He would remember her. He would remember their love. Only to be left in pain and heartbroken and Hecate would continue her days, sharing the pain of broken love.
