Prompt for #HerTurnFilmsProject: Tech Nightmare-How far do they go? Starring: Joseph Morgan and Candice King (as inspiration). Place: Silicon Valley. Year: 2030.
Hello, my lovely readers. Welcome to my project, HerTurnFilmsProject. This is an example piece for anyone who is interested in seeing what I am offering. If you would like more info., PM me, or drop a message in my box @queenofthedramedies on Tumblr. On with the showā¦
It started on a Saturday. I just transferred to a job, to do some consulting, with a little tech company. They needed people who had strong communication skills and a no-nonsense attitude. The boys there looked at my perky smile and my blonde curls and they thought: āSheās cute and cannot possibly understand a word I am saying to her.ā
Too bad for them. In fact, I love technology. My devices make every day easier. Like my Fridgieāyeah, I think itās an odd thing to call the fridge, but the kid who invented it was only five. I hacked my Fridgie and have made it into a music player. And it plays my favorite tunes, every single morning. So, I dance around my kitchen, eating my granola and hoping that some creep is not watching me through the screen.
On a Saturday, I had work to do. Yes. You heard me right. Work, on a Saturday. Apparently the boys had a meeting and I had to come up with a speech for their selected boss. Oh, well, double my pay for the day.
So, Iām on my way to work and I hear this faint buzzing. At first I just shrug it off. Itās nothing, I tell myself. Oh, no, it was something alright. It was this weird Poddette hanging no more than ten feet away. Itās this charming shade of baby blue, reminds me of a new baby. The light changesāI continue on my wayāforgetting all about my little stalker.
On Monday, there is the Poddette, again. This thing does not give up. It just follows me to work. These things are supposed to make our lives easier. Pick things up like the newspaper, play music and remind us of things, like my purse, on my nightstand, on my way out the door.
Why is this Poddette following me?
Like the good, little techie I am, I lead my new friend home, and then I hit it, with a baseball bat. Now that I have it, trapped in my homeāwhere it has nowhere to go, nowhere to hideāI take it into my kitchen and open the back. Finding the control panel, I hit the right buttons to send it home, tomorrow, since itās my day off.
With a smile on my face, I follow my little stalker, pet Poddette back to where he came from. Imagine my surprise, or lack thereof when I get to my temporary work place. Of course, itās one of those creepy boys I work for who has sent the Poddette to follow me around like a demented puppy.
Storming into the office, I am about to chew out the boy that the Poddette settles in front of. But then he turns, pushing his glasses up his nose, his mess of brownish-blondish curls falling into his eyes and I melt like the biggest, cheesiest rom-com loving girl who has ever walked the planet.
āCandice, would you like a coffee?ā he asks, his British accent making my knees weak.
āSure. Iād love to.ā I say with a cheerful smile. āCome here, boy,ā I call and the Poddette flies to me. I take it to a nearby coffee shop, grab a latte and know that Morgan, Mr. Techie himself, is watching me the whole time.
A Poddette, sadly, does not exist at this time, and is named after ear pods. So, imagine a floating piece of plastic and metalāmuch like a talking droneāminus the propellersāthat could help people with their daily needs.
Thank you reading, faving, following, and reviewing. I hope to see you again, soon, remember to support #HTF!Ā
