The castle hall was quiet save for the harsh, labored breathing battered up against the heavy double doors. Adrian grimaced as he turned away from them, one arm pressed against the wound in his side. His hand came away wet. Black dots swam in his vision. A copper tang in his dry mouth. He was seventeen years too young to die.

What a terrible time for father to be away, he thought, because even with all of his mother's talents and strengths, there had been a few too many. Perhaps he had been a little arrogant this time. It was about to cost him. He simply hadn't thought this attack would be any different than the others.

Adrian took a faltering step forward. His legs gave out beneath him. His knees hit the rug. There was a noise--something of a commotion somewhere in the vicinity. He lifted his head as if it weighed a ton.

𝙺𝙰𝚈𝙽  𝙷𝙰𝙳  𝙲𝙾𝙼𝙴  𝚃𝙾  𝚂𝙴𝙴  𝚃𝙷𝙴  𝙼𝙾𝚁𝚃𝙰𝙻  𝚆𝙾𝙼𝙰𝙽 ,  his  head  &  neck  comically  reaching  further  into  her  study ,  yet  body  too  large  to  follow  through .  it  emitted  a  pitiful  groan  to  signal  a  distress .  what  could  cause  it?  what  possibly  can  make  such  a  large ,  hell - beast  uncomfortable?

𝙷𝙴  𝙻𝙸𝙴𝙳  𝙳𝙾𝚆𝙽 ,  𝙷𝙰𝙻𝙵  𝙸𝙽  𝚃𝙷𝙴  𝚁𝙾𝙾𝙼 ,  other  half  stretching  across  the  corridor .  from  the  coiling  pale  mane ,  a  little  dhampir  has  emerged .  to  slide  down  from  his  torso  onto  the  snout .  it  wasn’t  hurting  the  beast ,  but  he  doubted  it’d  be  safe  for  Lisa’s  child  to  be  playing  on  him  in  such  way .

the   count   preferred   they   be   alone;   that is to say, that they be entirely unbothered by those of his own kind in that secluded palace of gloom.   occasionally he would glance toward the imposing doors of that alchemical study, and the room would begin to echo with the tapping of his claws and the silent mouthing of long-forgotten spells.   the count's sharp teeth would seem to glisten within the dimness of the room, but with no visitors, who would feel the bite, the sting?  any who saw fit to question his judgement when it came to the tutelage of a mortal woman.                              she had only been there a day.

he came to life at the scream of old door hinges, standing from the table to greet the young woman.   he towered over even the decorative armor casings that lined the walls, and fangled his face in such a way so that it was partially obscured by a curtain of his hair.
