                      heart-to-heart, you’re right beside him as always.  What  tragedy  it  is :  the  hero  of  the  day  comes  home  feeling  like  the  villain.  Time  and  time  again  he’s  left  to  take  risks  for  the  sake  of  a  better  outcome;   time  and  time  again,  his  luck  wears  thin  ;  time  and  time  again,  he  comes  back  a  little  broken  than  before.  WORLD SAVED AT WHAT COST?  /   WHAT IS A HERO’S REWARD?   War?  A  purpose?  A  challenge  left  after  ;  a  war  on  mind  and  spirit?   He’s  got  a  strong  spirit,  a  brilliant  mind,  but  he  always  comes  back  a  little  more  broken  than  before.  

                              BROKEN BOY BESIDE YOU,     you’re  one  of  the  kind;  fixed  at  jagged  edges  and  survivor’s  guilt.   You  get  it    - - -  and  you  didn’t  want  to.   Mark  that:  didn’t.  Now  it  comes  to  use,  a  tool  to  heal  instead.   (   we’re  not  monsters  .   we’re  just  ...... )

 Hand  curves  on-top  of  his,   brown  eyes  determined  to  have  him  meet  yours.   ❛ You  can’t  save  everyone.   It’s  not  possible.  The  fact  you  try  makes  you  a  hero.  Don’t  forget  you’re  only  human,  too.   There’s  no  blood  on  your  hands.  You  didn’t  kill  her  just  because  you  weren’t  there.   I’m  sorry  you  think  you  did. ❜ Once  upon  a  time,  those  words  would  make  you  a  hypocrite.  Some  days,  they  still  are.  RIGHT PLACE/ WRONG TIME . WRONG PLACE / RIGHT TIME.    They  always  land  unlucky,  you  can’t  have  both,  and  if  you  do:  it’s  temporary.   There’s  blood  on  your  hands  too  because  another  boy  silenced  your  tongue.  You  get  it:   not  being  there  being  the  reason  for  tragedy.  Life  is  full  of  butterfly  effects,  and  they  haunt  you  sometimes  with  endless  ‘what  ifs’  to  play  around  and  torture  yourself  with.

But  this  should  not  be  one  ‘what  if’  to  add  to  reasons  he  can’t  sleep  at  night.  There’s  great  power  with  responsibility ;  and  he’s  driving  himself  insane  with  it.  You  wish  it  was  easier,  you  wish  he  could  sleep  sound.

Your  goes  to  his  face,  thumb  rubbing  against  the  skin  that’s  seen  too  many  now-faded  bruises,  ❛ Look,  if anything,   she’s  in  a  better  place  now,  right?  ❜

Barbara was leaving her shift at the library when it happened. As per usual, her mind was flooded with thousands of thoughts, mainly what was left of her Christmas shopping and what sort of awful holiday schemes their rogues gallery might have in store. So naturally, it was pretty embarrassing colliding into the other on her way out. She’d seen him there before, usually busy taking notes on his laptop and sketching out what looked like rough blueprints-not that she was keeping tabs on his work or anything.
