I got Crusader Kings 2, decided to try and take over Ireland, and OH BOY. These are my three faves.
Muirenn was my lesbian niece who became a countess and proceeded to fight like a demon when I tried to take her county. My plot to kill her succeeded and I felt bad, especially since it meant her planned wedding with a then-8-year-old (male) never happened.
King Murchad II was my 3rd king. He committed suicide after his cousin, the Queen of Castille, rejected him after they’d been lovers for a while. Apparently his other lover, who gave him two daughters, wasn’t good enough (she was Lowborn).
Doelgus married the Queen Martha of Scotland, who bore Doelgus two daughters, lost her kingdom in a war, and promptly died. The older (genius) daughter inherited Martha’s county, betrothed herself to her ambitious rival (who owned several counties) and was pretty damn awesome. Doelgus remarried the Princess of France and immediately died, meaning Game Over as his heir was female and had married outside of the dynasty. She did have a son with the genius trait, though.
I would say I wish history class was this awesome, but I took a French Revolution class in college and it was pretty interesting. The “Alternate History of the Irish Kingdom of Mide” is a close second.
